I have uninstalled and deleted all WPML settings and reinstalled it. The issue is still there.
There is no issue with my second website. Please help!

You have all the access you need to check my website's settings.

After reinstalling WPML again, it automatically started creating copies of the database. I got more than 45000 images suddenly.
Thankfully I created a backup which I restored.

Can this plugin work with my website?

Hi there,

Please note that WPML doesn’t duplicate any files on your site. Duplication here means that new entries are created in the database with your translated image captions, titles, meta text, and other information, so that they're correctly shown on the second language versions.

Now, about the main issue of this topic, we're facing a hard time trying to copy the website into our servers, due to its size. I could create a lighter package with Duplicator, but then WPML was reset in my local copy, and we couldn't reproduce the issue.

Having said that, may I kindly ask you to create a staging version, so that we can debug this issue and make tests without compromising the live production? We need to, for instance, deactivate plugins, check the database, etc. By the way, kindly ensure that the database is accessible - we tried to open it for the original website, but the access was denied.

Please let us know. Thank you.

Hi there,

Thanks for your efforts.

Very strangely the issue does not happen in the staging version (and as I mentioned previously, it also does not happen in the copy version created in our local servers).

This seems to be specific to the original website. By the way, we tried to access the live website again, but our user was deleted there. Can you please review it?

Please let me give you some options in the meantime:

- Is that possible to try to reproduce the issue in a minimal environment? This is, with all plugins except Rank Math and WPML deactivated. You can use this plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/health-check/ to do that, letting the plugins disabled only for your user, until you disable it or log out. This way we can trace if the problem comes from a plugin conflict

- Another possibility is to recreate the post, and try to translate the meta SEO info for this new post. Would it be an option for you?

Please keep us posted. Thank you/

The Rank Math issue is resolved now on the staging and live produce. I don't know how it's resolved, but it is now.
Moving on, I would agree with you that there is something with the live product.

The second issue that I am facing with the live website is the auto internal linking.

Here is how it works:
I create a page with translations "xyz.com/a", translations /de, fr, es, etc.
I then created another page, "xyz.com/b," and backlinked "xyz.com/a" on the original page.

What WPML does by default is internally link all the copies that it has in the respective directories. (At least that's what happening in my other websites and staging version).

If I link "xyz.com/a" from "xyz.com/b", WPML will automatically backlink its translations. The German translation will look like "xyz.com/de/b", (will have the internal link of "xyz.com/de/a".

This is not happening in the live product. What do you want me to do, create another support ticket or we can continue here?

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply, and glad that it is fine now.

For the new link translation issue you brought, one thing we can try is to use the 'scan and adjust links now' option in the WPML -> Settings -> Translate Link Targets section.

If the problem remains, and you're willing to do a manual link translation, there is this method: https://wpml.org/announcements/2020/02/translating-links-with-advanced-translation-editor/

Otherwise, yes, I kindly ask you to open another thread, since it is a different issue from the main one of this ticket, and due to our support policy we should deal with only one problem per ticket/chat.

Thanks for your understanding. Have a good one 🙂

I am more than happy the Rank Math issue is resolved. I will check out the " option in the WPML -> Settings -> Translate Link Targets section."

But the thing is its not happening in the staging version. Have you faced similar problems in the past?

Hello there,

Yes, in our forum we have seen a few reports of this issue.

Another thing I've noticed is that the WPML -> Languages -> Make themes work multilingual option is disabled in your website, and it can affect on this behavior. A valid test would be to enable it and check again.

Regardless, since you confirmed the main issue is solved, I hope we are good to close here. Feel free to contact us any time if you need assistance with our products. Thanks!

Kind regards,
Mateus.

WPML -> Languages -> Make themes, this is done.

I tried doing this "WPML -> Settings -> Translate Link Targets section." which adjusted the links, but it additionally created multiple categories with xyz.com/ca/wpml-ca/post

I didn't want that. I want it to look like the same as default but in a different category/ directory. xyz.com/ca/wpml/post.
Is there a solution for that?

P.S I have tried this in the staging version, and luckily the live product is not affected by this. Having a conversation with you have taught me to focus on safety first 🙂

Hi there,

Because the original question is resolved, may I kindly ask you to open a different ticket for this new issue?

This will also help other users with similar problems find solutions when searching the forum as well as we avoid mixing lots of questions in one ticket.

Thank you for your understanding.

Kind regards,
Mateus.
