[Resolved] Updating failed. The response is not a valid JSON response.
This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: The client is experiencing an issue when trying to translate their website into Romanian, receiving the error: 'Updating failed. The response is not a valid JSON response.' This occurs when the Phlox Portfolio and Yoast SEO plugins are activated.
Solution: We recommend two approaches: 1. Use the WPML Translation Editor to create or update the Romanian translation, which should prevent the error message from appearing.
2. If the error message is ignored, the page can still be updated, but be aware that it will be overridden when the WPML Translation Editor is used to update the translation. For more information, please refer to the documentation.
To copy page settings like content layout and title bar to the Romanian translation without manual editing, follow these steps: - Go to WPML > Settings > Custom Fields Translation section. - Enable the option 'Show "Multilingual Content Setup" meta box on post edit screen.' and save changes. - Edit the homepage in English, scroll down, select theme setting fields (e.g., content_layout, aux_title_bar_title_show), set them to 'Copy', click on Apply, and update the page. - Update the translation page with WPML Translation Editor without manual editing. For more details, check the documentation.
If the client can also reach out to the theme support for a list of setting fields.
Hello, the website naturafood.net has 3 languages: English - main, Bulgarian and Romanian.
I already translated the whole website from English to Bulgarian but when I tried to translate the site into Romanian i got this error: Updating failed. The response is not a valid JSON response.
Before this ticket gets assigned to one of my colleagues, I will try to help.
I created a custom search URL for you so that you can quickly find the existing support tickets that are based on the same topics and that already contain solutions shared by my colleagues: hidden link
This way, you might find the solution faster and we might spend less time on this ticket.
Please take a look over the first results and let me know if you managed to get this resolved.
Thank you for contacting WPML support, I'd be happy to help you with this issue.
I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take a better look at the issue. It would be better to have a testing site where the issue is replicated. Your next reply is set to private to share the info.
❌ IMPORTANT: Please backup your database and website before proceeding ❌
You can use this plugin to create the backup: https://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/
✙ I would need your permission to de-activate and re-activate Plugins and the Theme to change configurations on the site if needed. This is also a reason the backup is critical.
The error message appears when two plugins activated: Phlox Portfolio and Yoast SEO. However, I see that:
1. No fatal error is recorded in the WordPress debug log and the change is still saved.
2. You are using WPML Translation Editor to translate the homepage to the Bulgarian language.
I suggest:
1. (Recommended) Use the WPML Translation Editor to create/update the translation in the Romanian language and you won't see the error message.
I think you want to edit the homepage in Romanian language manually to setup the page settings like content layout, title bar ... To copy those settings to the translation page without manually editing, please follow steps below:
1. Go to WPML > Settings > Custom Fields Translation section > Enable option "Show "Multilingual Content Setup" meta box on post edit screen." > Save changes.
2. Edit the homepage in English language > Scroll down > Select some setting fields of the theme (content_layout, aux_title_bar_title_show ...) > Set the preference to "Copy" > Click on Apply > Update the page.
3. Now you can update the translation page with WPML Translation Editor without manually editing the translation page.
Refer documentation https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/translating-custom-fields/
You can also contact theme support to get the list of setting fields on their side.
I made everything that you told me.
I have problem with duplicate the content of the page.
For example take a look into these pages:
1. hidden link and hidden link
2. hidden link and hidden link
The layout is completely different.
I want to say again that I hadn't any problems translating the site from English to Bulgarian.
Please give me some advice on how to fix the problems.
Those issues happen because there is no Portfolio post translated into Romanian language to display in the section Grid Porfolios. I've translated one post into Romanian and the layout displays the same as in English, and Bulgarian languages.
I'm going to mark this ticket as Resolved. Feel free to contact us again if you have any questions.
Thanks and have a good day.
