Tell us what you are trying to do?

Hi, I'm upgrading the plugin of 4.6.6 (w/ PHP 8.1) from 4.2.7.1 (w/ PHP 7.4) at new dev server. When activating the new plugin, it shows Fatal error below, and it results in blocking to access any /wp-admin pages.

The error message (error1.PNG) and location '.../sitepress.class.php : 1279' (error2.PNG) are attached here.

The same action was tested with longer execution time limit (such as 300 sec), but it gives same result.

Could you help on solving this issue?

What is the link to your site? it is local server

You can try to connect your staging site with a site key and automatically update WPML.
https://wpml.org/faq/install-wpml/#register

If this is still the issue, make a manual update of WPML with a few major versions in between. Please find the change log here:
https://wpml.org/download/wpml-multilingual-cms/?section=changelog

I also suggest updating PHP and WordPress after you update WPML plugin.

Hi, Adrey.

I just tested with 4 major versions with PHP 8.1 at our multi site server, but activation was failed. Also, I created empty microsite at the same server, it does not work also.

I see same error message (attached above) at same location in 30 sec limit, and when increasing time limit and memory, it also ended up with memory exhaustion.

Could you give any advice why the activation process stopped at same line of code ?

Do you have existing translations? Or do you want to start with fresh WPML? Since you mentioned that you have tested on a new microsite.

I need to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site – preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated if possible – in order to be of better help. Thank you for the provided information. I followed your instructions and added the lines in the host file—the problem is that I cannot log in to the site.

Error: The username **** is not registered on this site. If you are unsure of your username, try your email address instead.

I found that the old Share Buttons by AddThis plugin conflicts with WPML Multilingual CMS plugin. Thank you.
