Background of the issue:
We are experiencing an issue with the WPML plugin on our website hidden link. We have translated our products from English to German.
Symptoms:
The English versions of the products are showing German categories and tags in the dashboard.
Questions:
How can we correct the misassignment of categories and tags in translated products?
What steps should we follow to ensure categories and tags are correctly assigned during translation?
Thank you for contacting WPML support. While you are waiting for one of my colleagues to take this ticket and work on it, let me provide you with first debugging steps or if I can perhaps help with the issue quickly.
Are your categories and tags translated? YOu can confirm this in WPML -> Taxonomy Translations. If they are, please be sure to make a full backup of your site and database.
Then, go to WPML -> Support -> Troubleshooting.
Look for 'Clean up' and click the following:
- Synchronize posts taxonomies
- Clear the cache in WPML
- Remove ghost entries from the translation tables
- Fix element_type collation
- Set language information
- Synchronize local job IDs
- Fix Terms count
- Fix post assignment for translations
After this, do the correct categories display? If not, please try updating the original language product and then update the translation and see if anything changes.

Hello,
First, please make sure that all categories and tags are translated at WPML > Taxonomy Translation. Select "Product Categories" form the dropdown and make sure that are all translated, incl. Labels and Slug in the bottom section.
Also, please revise WooCommerce > WooCommerce Multilingual & Multi-Currency > Status for any given config issues.
About WPML Troubleshooting:
Please select "Products" from the dropdown and click the button "Synchronize posts taxonomies".
If this does not solve the issue, we might need to consider testing further options.
I would like to offer to have a closer look at the problem and request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to the website to investigate this issue further.
