Check if the English site is now appearing correctly. After following these steps, the client's pages functioned correctly with French set as the default language. However, since the issue happening when you switch the default language, could you please try the following steps after changing the language and see if it helps?
- Please go to WPML > Support > Troubleshooting

- Once done, clear the caches from your site and browser and check again.

We switched the default language back to English because we did not want our client to lose access to their English site while you tried to fix the problem.
We gave you access to the site. Please switch the default language to French yourself and try these troubleshooting steps yourself. Please let us know if this solves the problem.
