Background of the issue:
I'm trying to add both English and Chinese for the Hong Kong region to my website using WPML. I have filled out all the required and non-required data.

Symptoms:
When trying to add languages to the website, I receive an error stating 'not all required data is filled' even though it is.

Questions:
Why am I receiving an error about missing required data when adding languages?
How can I successfully add English and Chinese for the Hong Kong region without encountering this error?

Hello,
Thank you for contacting us

1.- Please increase the WP memory Limit. Minimum requirements are 128Mb: https://wpml.org/home/minimum-requirements/
You can add this to wp-config.php to increase WP memory:`

/* Memory Limit */
define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M');

- Add it above the line /* That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */

You can double-check the WordPress memory limit in WPML -> Support

2.- Once the WordPress memory is increased, double-check if the issue has disappeared, and you can add the custom language.

Regards,
Carlos

I've tried changing the memory limit, but this didn't resolve the issue. I'm still getting the 'Please, enter required data' error.

Thank you for your message.

Please share the access credentials to the site in your next message, which I have set private. This will allow me to reproduce the issue and double-check the configuration.

Confirm you have created a full site backup that you can restore if necessary.

Thank you very much for sharing the credentials requested.

I tried to add the custom language but I got a memory error. Please create a staging site with a copy of the production site (you can use the WP Staging plugin for free) and share the access credentials in your next message, which I have set private. This will allow me to deactivate plugins and run more tests if necessary.

Hi,
Thank you very much for creating the staging site

I left the staging site in a minimal state, and I can see the 'nk' custom language added correctly. Please tell me if you are trying to add a different language. If so, then provide the language name code so I can check if the issue persists.

Hi Carlos,

It is regarding the zh-hk and en-hk languages! 🙂

Hi there!

This is Paola and I will continue with the ticket as Carlos is on holidays.

I was able to add both languages. If the problem persists for you, please let me know how to reproduce it.

If adding the language is not working on your production site, it’s very likely caused by a plugin conflict.

The easiest way to confirm this is by using the CheckConflicts plugin:

- Install the Check Conflicts plugin on your production site.

- Through Check Conflicts, disable all plugins except the WPML ones.

- Try adding the language again — it should work normally in this minimal setup.

- Once the language has been added successfully, you can reactivate all your plugins.

After that, you can safely delete the Check Conflicts plugin.
