[Resolved] WooCommerce strings translated but not showing
This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: The client reported that some translations were missing on the WooCommerce checkout page, even though they were translated in WPML. The issue persisted despite the client's efforts to resolve it, and no recent changes were made to the website that could have caused this.
Solution: 1. We recommended updating the WooCommerce plugins as they required PHP 7.4 or newer. 2. The client updated the Enfold theme and the WooCommerce templates in the child theme. 3. After these updates, the client confirmed that the issue seemed to be fixed.
If you're experiencing similar issues with translations not appearing on your WooCommerce checkout page, we recommend you: - Ensure that your PHP version is up-to-date, as WooCommerce may require a newer version. - Update your themes and WooCommerce templates, especially if you're using a child theme.
Please note that this solution might be irrelevant if it's outdated or not applicable to your case. If the issue persists, we highly recommend checking related known issues, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If you still need assistance, please open a new support ticket.
This is the technical support forum for WPML - the multilingual WordPress plugin.
Everyone can read, but only WPML clients can post here. WPML team is replying on the forum 6 days per week, 22 hours per day.
Some time ago a client asked us if we had done something on the website hidden link. The client said that some translations were missing on the checkout page. The strings are translated in WPML but all of a sudden they do not show anymore. And expecially on the checkout page of WooCommerce.
We have tried to solve this problem and tried everything but the translations don't show. Is there anything we can do to get this working again? As far as we know nothing has changed.

Hello there,
It's possible that those strings are not available in a different domain inside String Translation.
Try the following procedure to see if you can find new strings and by translating them, the issue gets fixed:
- Go to WPML -> String Translation
- Enable the option 'look for strings while pages are rendered'
- Go to the front end where the strings appear
- Return to the String Translation screen and uncheck the option above
- Refresh the page and try to search for one of the strings to see if you can find new records that could potentially be missing a translation
Give it a try and let us know if it works.
Otherwise, please give us an example of a string that's not translated for our debugging.
Thank you for your reply. I tried what you suggested but it is not working. The strange thing is that most problems occur with common WooCommerce strings. For example the string Proceed to checkout on the cart page: hidden link And the strings on the checkout page: hidden link. Nothing is translated anymore. And I have no clue why it is not working anymore.
I tried to clear the cache. Including the WPML cache. I purged the CDN. I tried to safe the strings again. But to no avail. And I tried your suggestion. But the translations won't appear.

Hello,
I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take better look at the issue. You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply. The information you will enter is private which means only you and I can see and have access to it.
Our Debugging Procedures
I will be checking various settings in the backend to see if the issue can be resolved. Although I won't be making changes that affect the live site, it is still good practice to backup the site before providing us access. In the event that we do need to debug the site further, I will duplicate the site and work in a separate, local development environment to avoid affecting the live site.
- Please make a backup of site files and database before providing us access.
- If you do not see the wp-admin/FTP fields this means your post & website login details will be made PUBLIC. DO NOT post your website details unless you see the required wp-admin/FTP fields. If you do not, please ask me to enable the private box. The private box looks like this: hidden link
Please, let me know if you need any additional details. Have a nice day.

Hello there,
I've temporarily switched to the main Enfold theme and found that the issue does not occur with it.
Upon further review I can see that your child theme has custom templates and implementations of WooCommerce items.
I'm afraid that this issue is caused due to some sort of incompatibility.
We understand that replicating the issue on a sandbox site can be time-consuming and might seem like a daunting task. However, this step is crucial for us to isolate the cause of the issue accurately. By reproducing the problem in a controlled environment, we can more efficiently identify a solution and address the incompatibility between your child theme and WPML.
Could I kindly ask you to log into the sandbox environment I've provided (the login link was sent in a private reply above)? If you could replicate your site minimally—just enough to reproduce the issue, especially by installing the child theme, it would be immensely helpful. This approach helps us to pinpoint the issue more directly and potentially find a quicker resolution.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding. If you encounter any difficulties or have further questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.
The sandbox broke down. I started with installing the theme and the child theme. When I activated the child theme a critical error was shown. So I think you are right that the templates need to be updates. I don't know what the exact error is at this moment. Can you check that for me?
Still testing but the issue seems to be fixed. I updates the Enfold theme and I updates the WooCommerce templates in the child theme. So I will close this ticket.
Thanks you very much for your help!
Regards,
Rob van heijst
