This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
You are using the WPML plugin with Max Mega Menu on your multilingual WordPress site and experiencing issues where submenu icons disappear or appear blurry in translated menus. You are wondering if the 'Synchronize menus between languages' option could resolve this.
Solution:
Unfortunately, Max Mega Menu is not fully compatible with WPML. To handle translated menus, you need to create them from scratch for each language as outlined in Max Mega Menu's documentation, which you can find here: https://www.megamenu.com/documentation/wpml-setup/. We recommend setting up a testing environment to replicate your menu setup and confirm the behavior. Here's a link to a testing site where you can do this: https://unique-accordion.sandbox.otgs.work/?auto=QDikoduZmXkvDEZLG2B25k9JxeUUrgvs.

If this solution does not apply to your case, or if it seems outdated, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If issues persist, please open a new support ticket at WPML support forum for further assistance.

Hi,

Thank you for your patience.

Regarding the Max Mega Menu plugin: unfortunately, this plugin is not officially compatible with WPML and does not support the WP Menus Sync feature. This means that menus created with it will need to be translated manually via Appearance > Menus, including the layout.

We have reached out to the plugin author multiple times in the past to invite them to collaborate on compatibility, but unfortunately, we have not received a response. Without their cooperation, we’re unable to make the plugin fully compatible with WPML.

As an alternative, you might consider using one of the compatible menu plugins listed here:

1. https://wpml.org/plugin/mega-main-menu/
2. https://wpml.org/plugin/ubermenu-3/

Let us know if you have any further questions or need help with the manual translation steps.

Best regards,

Spending over $600 in the past month alone on your automated translation solution, I expected not only premium performance—but also premium support. Instead, your response to our compatibility issue reads as a complete deflection of responsibility.

You acknowledge the Max Mega Menu plugin is widely used yet unsupported, and despite repeated outreach to the developer, nothing has changed. But what’s more astonishing is that your solution to a paying customer is essentially: "Use a different plugin."

That’s unacceptable.

We’re not talking about a fringe tool here. Max Mega Menu is actively maintained and widely adopted in the WordPress ecosystem. If WPML wants to position itself as a serious solution for multilingual enterprise sites, shrugging off compatibility with a leading menu plugin isn’t just disappointing—it’s damaging.

We’re investing heavily in building multilingual infrastructure, and your product is at the center of it. The idea that manual translation of complex menu structures is your best answer—after charging us enterprise-level pricing—doesn’t inspire confidence.

This needs escalation. We need a clear plan from your technical team to provide, at minimum, partial or workaround-based compatibility with Max Mega Menu, or we’ll be reevaluating our long-term use of WPML and recommending clients do the same.

Looking forward to a meaningful, actionable response—because what we received below certainly wasn’t it.

Sincerely,

Hi Steven,

Thank you for your feedback. I understand your frustration, and want to explain, technically, why this is our response.

WPML, like any other plugin, exists within an ecosystem where compatibility depends on collaboration between different developers. We cannot solve all compatibility issues on our own — that's not technically possible.

To give an analogy: WooCommerce doesn’t take responsibility if a theme author hasn’t made their theme compatible with WooCommerce. It’s up to the theme author to ensure compatibility. The same applies here — Max Mega Menu’s author would need to take the necessary steps to ensure their plugin works with WPML.

If you feel it’s unacceptable that Max Mega Menu doesn’t provide full multilingual compatibility, we encourage you to reach out to their team directly. Without their cooperation, there’s no technical path for us to make their plugin WPML-compatible. It's literally and technically not possible for us to make Max Mega Menu work from WPML's code or interface.

As I said, we've reached out a couple of times in the past to the Max Mega Menu's team, and they weren't responsive. We didn't receive feedback from them, despite our efforts.

Let us know if you need guidance on manual menu translation or other supported alternatives.

Best regards,
Lucas
