I am trying to: show my website translated.

Link to a page where the issue can be seen:
hidden link

I expected to see: A website with language selector (NL/FR) and content displayed in function of the language.

Instead, I got: A website with the language selector that has disappeared, and all content are mixed. It seems WPML has automatically completely lost its setup. Also a message saying some records are missing in the WPML database is displayed on the dashboard (see attached image).

Hello,

Welcome to the WPML support forum. I will do my best to help you to resolve the issue.

How long you have been using WPML on this site? Please share with us the WordPress debug.log(not WPML debug information) to collect more details on this. Refer to these pages for instructions

https://wpml.org/documentation/support/debugging-wpml/

https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/debugging-in-wordpress/

To enable the WordPress Debug log, open your wp-config.php file of site root and look for define('WP_DEBUG', false);. Change it to:

// Enable WP_DEBUG mode
define( 'WP_DEBUG', true );

// Enable Debug logging to the /wp-content/debug.log file
define( 'WP_DEBUG_LOG', true );

// Disable display of errors and warnings
define( 'WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY', false );
@ini_set( 'display_errors', 0 );

In this case, the errors will be saved to a debug.log log file inside the */wp-content/* directory. Please visit the dashboard pages and check if you are getting any errors or warnings related to WPML in the log file.

If you can paste your debug.log to http://pastebin.com/index.php and provide me that link it would be great! (This is the cleanest way because sometimes the logs are long and create a complete mess of discussion).

Ok. I activated the debug and navigated a little bit.
You'll find the URL of the log here : https://pastebin.com/4wWEGVVq .
However, I don't think you'll find much there, since I don't see anything WPML related in here.

BTW, WMPL has been used for years (I'd say 6 or 7 at least).
Best regards,
Bruno

Hi Bruno,

Thank you for the details. You are right. The Debug log does not show any errors or warnings related to WPML.

So please fill in the private details fields after a full site backup. I would like to access the admin area of your site for further checking. Refer to the following links for more details about our private information sharing policies.

Hi Bruno,

Thank you for the login credentials. I can access the backend. But please grant us the admin privileges for further checking.

Please check the attached image. Have you tried that step after this bug happened? If not, try it after a full site backup{mandatory} and let us know your feedback.

Just to make sure, have you made any major changes on the site recently, like site migration from one server to another.

Hi there,

Actually, you already had Admin rights on the site, but I just gave you superadmin rights to the network it belongs to. So you have the highest access rights now.
Also, yes we tried the troubleshooting functionality already. But the result was that we had to re-configure absolutely everything. Even after executing that procedure, all site contents had lost their languages and the relations to the translated versions. Since there are hundreds of contents, we really can't afford having having to set up everything again. It would take us days. Moreover, we looked in the database, and saw that the definition of the contents languages were still there. So there must be a way for you to recover it...
Best regards.

Hi Bruno,

Thank you for the updates. I have the network admin privileges now. Somehow it was not visible when I tried last time. Please let us know the following for tracking this issue.

1) Have you made any major changes on the site recently, like site migration from one server to another?

2) You only have one child site in this Multisite setup, am I correct

3) Do you have a recent backup before this bug happened

Also, please allow me to make a duplicator copy of your site using the Duplicator plugin(https://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/) for debugging the issue on my local server. So we can troubleshoot the bug without affecting your live site.

Hereafter the answers to your questions :

1) Have you made any major changes on the site recently, like site migration from one server to another?
=> 2 or 3 months ago, we got attacked on this site and other ones. As a consequence, we decided to perform a major update of the WP version and the plugins (including WPML). However, the site ran well during several weeks, so we don't think that's the problem.
Apart from that, no other changes were made.

2) You only have one child site in this Multisite setup, am I correct
=> Correct. The site is based on a theme we developed for a multisite application, but in this specific case, we isolated it because it's an important client.

3) Do you have a recent backup before this bug happened
=> Unfortunately, we don't have recent backups from before the problem. We have some from before the big updates, and some from last week after the "crash" of WPML.

Also, please allow me to make a duplicator copy of your site
=> No problem, as long as it can help solving the issue quickly. The client is getting more and more impatient...

Hi Bruno,

Thank you for the details and permission. We are trying to make the Duplicator package but it results in errors, but still working on it. Please check the attached images for more details.

So we would like to know, do you have a staging site(clone copy of the live site). Because it will help us to troubleshoot this bug without affecting the live site. Please update us as soon as possible.

Hi there,
Sorry, I didn't realize you asked me something :/
Actually we had no more staging site for that one, but we should be able to build one within a timeframe of 1-2 days. But, can you confirm you kept investigating this issue?
It's becoming really critical for our client.
Best regards,
Bruno

We have extend your 2FA grace period by 10 days, so it should be OK now.

Also note that we have created a staging site for you with a recent copy of the official site.
The URL is hidden link .

Hello,

Thank you for the updates. I can log in now. But the network admin is redirecting to hidden link on hidden link. Please check.

Because we have to make sure our testing will not affecting hidden link and has to install Adminer plugin for debugging.
