Hello,

I'm wondering if you have a list of settings to get Bricks Builder to work well with WPML? I know it's not officially supported, but I thought I'd ask anyway. I have reached out to Bricks support as well, but no reply yet, and this project is very urgent, so I hope you can help me.

It took me 10 hours of trial and error to finally get my query loops inside Bricks to work in an additional language, by testing a lot of settings and duplicating a Bricks template (not individually translated). So far so good, but I'm afraid I've missed something important, and want to get it 100% right before setting up WPML on a client site.

I noticed strange things happening with the automated translate module, like tags were being automatically translated. Perhaps it was because I had tags set to 'translate' before I switched it off. I prefer to not translate tags, but there seems to be traces of those still saved in the database. Any way I can clean that up?

Please see a screenshot of all my current settings here: hidden link

I'm using MetaBox for custom post types, custom fields and custom taxonomies. I'm also using WP GridBuilder, but haven't figured out how I get my facets to show up in additional languages. Perhaps I missed some custom fields settings for that in WPML as well. Or can I translate/duplicate WPGB facets?

Another question: can I change the language URL? Right now it's domain.com/zh-hans/ for Simplified Chinese, but maybe my client wants it to be something else, like domain.com/cn/

Thanks a lot advance! I'm struggling with getting this setup right, as it's not a standard WordPress build. I'm looking forward to your reply.

Best regards,
Erik

Hi Erik,

Thank you for contacting WPML support!

== Regarding Bricks Builder ==

After reviewing the custom fields translation preferences, it appears that they have been correctly set. However, please note that this does not necessarily indicate full compatibility between WPML and Bricks. Our team has been in communication with Bricks Builder developers to work towards achieving compatibility, but it is still an ongoing project.

I had tags set to 'translate' before I switched it off. I prefer to not translate tags, but there seems to be traces of those still saved in the database. Any way I can clean that up?

Once you have set the translation preference to "Copy", it is important to update the original language content (whether it is a page, post, or template) in order for the translation preference to take effect.

== Regarding the WP Grid Builder ==

Since we limit 1 issue per ticket to keep things clear and easy to follow, please open a new ticket for your issue and we will be glad to help and check it out further. As it looks like to be related to compatibility as well.

== Regarding the language URL format ==

You'll need to add a new language with the new language code. Please refer to this FAQ item for more details: https://wpml.org/faq/how-can-i-assign-or-change-language-code-to-existing-content/.

Hope that helps 🙂
