This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client received an email notification stating that their site has run out of translation credits and translations are paused, despite not using the automatic translation feature. They requested information on which pages the credits were used and by whom, and also asked to disable the automatic translation option.
Solution:
We confirmed that about 3500 automatic translation credits were used on a specific page, but we do not store information about which specific user triggered the translation job. To prevent future use of automatic translation, ensure that the 'Translate Everything Automatically' setting is turned OFF. Additionally, in the WPML Advanced Translation Editor, you can select 'Do not automatically translate when opening the editor' from the settings icon to avoid automatic translations when a page is opened in the editor. Since automatic translations are disabled and no credits are assigned to the site, there is no risk of credits being consumed accidentally.

I have received an email stating that “your site has run out of translation credits and translations are now paused.” However, as far as we know, nobody has used the automatic translation option, since we upload and manage the content translations ourselves.

Could you please let me know on which pages the credits were used and by whom?

Also, we would like the automatic translation option to be disabled, as we do not want to use it.

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,

Hello Silvia,

It seems you became inactive in the chat earlier, so I am creating this ticket so we can continue here.

I checked your WPML account and can confirm that around 3500 automatic translation credits were used on the site. The last translation job that consumed credits was on August 11, 2025, for this page:

WPML does not store information about which specific user triggered the translation job.

Since you do not want to use automatic translation, keeping “Translate Everything Automatically” turned OFF (as you confirmed) is the correct setting and no new credits will be used.

Please let me know if you need any further help.

Regards,
Drazen

Hello Drazen,

Thank you for your reply.

In that case, do you know, by any chance, why I have received the email notification now?

Also, would there be a way to permanently disable automatic translations? I manage many websites that use WPML, and I would prefer to prevent any client or website editor from using automatic translation credits by mistake.

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,
Silvia

Hello Silvia,

Thank you for your reply.

If automatic translation is disabled and “Translate Everything Automatically” is set to OFF, then automatic translations will not run, so you should be safe.

Additionally, when opening the WPML Advanced Translation Editor, you can click the settings icon and choose “Do not automatically translate when opening the editor”. This prevents automatic translation from starting when a page is opened in the editor.

Regarding credits, they cannot be used if there are no credits assigned to the site, so there is no risk of credits being consumed accidentally.

As for why the email was sent now, I cannot say with certainty. It may simply be a reminder triggered because the site previously used automatic translation and currently has no credits available.

Let me know if any further doubts.

Kind regards,
Dražen
