Hi,

The issue with ELementor builder and WPML has been resolved.

We now encounter a different issue with our setup.

Our privacy page shows in the backend the translations in different languages.
On the frontend when using the language switcher we only see English as option.

The language switcher we use is the WPML language switcher.

Why are the translations not shown as option?

Example page:

Thanks for your reply. Please go to this page: hidden link and, in the backend, use the language switcher from the top admin bar to switch to another language. Then check if the translated versions of the page are set to “Published.”

If any of them are still in “Draft” mode, they will not be visible on the frontend, and the language switcher will not display the corresponding language.

Hello Kor,

I have followed your instructions and the odd thing is that I don't see the translated page at all when I am working in the designated language.

It seems that pages that were translated previously by WPML are gone too.

Thanks for your reply. I will require temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) to a test site where the problem has been replicated, if possible. This will enable me to provide better assistance and determine if any configurations need to be modified.

Please note that it is important to have a backup for security purposes and to prevent any potential data loss. You can use the UpdraftPlus plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/) to fulfill your backup requirements.

Your upcoming reply will be treated with confidentiality and will only be visible to you and me.

✙ To resolve the issue, I may need your consent to deactivate and reactivate plugins and the theme, as well as make configuration changes on the site if necessary. This emphasizes the significance of having a backup.

Thanks for your reply. Could you please recheck your credentials? It's not working and I'm getting "Error: The password you entered for the username WPML is incorrect."

Thanks for your reply. It looks like the translated pages are in the trash bin or in drafts mode. You need to restore the pages and publish it as shown in this screen recording hidden link

Hi Kor,

Yes that helped a bit.

But then I encounter this situation:

The FR version doesn't have the Elementor theme applied to it.

I have set WPML to use the WPML editor but apparently it sees this page again as using the WP editor and therefor separate?

Also, the EN translated version got lost because while in the editing mode I wanted to check if it would recognize the styling. It warned me that all translated edits would be lost and gave me the WPML option. I choose that one but now the EN translations are gone.

How can the old translation be retrieved again because the translation was already paid for.

Hi,

I am a colleague of Mike and I will continue adding input to this support ticket.

A dev that is helping us out suggested the following:

Completely delete the pages in trash and then do a WPML cache clear and the pages sync, after that re-do the missing language versions.

* Is this the best way forward?

I am wondering. In the backend I see pages that were translated but apparently when going into the "edit page" mode WP reports them to be in the trash bin. Where did WPML save the translations?

If we do the abovementioned steps, I will lose all translations of these pages?

Thanks for your reply. I've checked this page hidden link and it was not configured as the primary language earlier. So this is what I've done to fix it.

1. Disconnect the translation https://wpml.org/faq/how-to-disconnect-translations-from-the-default-language-page-or-post/ and set the English language as the primary language page as explained here https://wpml.org/faq/how-to-link-already-translated-pages/ .

2. Then, I trigger the translation to the French language and it shows up fine now. hidden link

This is what I've done to your other languages. hidden link

Thank you for the detailed step by step procedure.

Just a few more questions:

How can I determine which is the default language of a page or post?
How can I determine that all translated pages are connected correctly to this default language page?
How can I determine that all translated pages are published?

On the top of the pages I see the different languages and behind it in round brackets the number of pages published. How can I determine quickly which pages are missing?

Another question that is now arising.

Sometimes when I want to edit a translated page it pops up the regular "edit post/page" screen whereas other pages the "advanced translation editor" is fired up.

How is that possible? The translated pages that opens up with the regular "edit wp post/page" screen are correctly connected to the original page as laid out by your steps.

Example page where the regular wp post/page opens up:

Whitepapers & use cases — Elementor

Here the Auto Translated Editor fires up correctly:

Customers - Elementor

Another thing is that the slugs of many pages need to be corrected.

When I do that by editing that in the "wp edit" mode will that disrupt the connection between the original and the translated page?

Or is there a better way to correct the slugs?
