This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem:
You are unable to re-add existing users as translators in WPML after an update, and you are concerned about losing translations when updating translated job pages.
Solution:
To resolve the issue of re-adding existing users as translators, you need to edit the
wp_capabilities
key in the
wp_usermeta
table. Remove the "translate" value for the affected users. This adjustment will allow you to add them back as translators. After making this change, please ensure to add the correct language pairs for each translator as needed.
If you are unsure what to do, don't proceed with the above.
Take a backup of the DB of your site before proceeding!
If you're experiencing similar issues or if this solution does not apply due to different circumstances or it seems outdated, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. Hi, I'll continue to help you with this issue. I can see the problem on your site. The users Niki, Elena, Elise, and Anniina can't be added as translators. 1. We have just released WPML version 4.7.5. Please update WPML and check if the issue is resolved. 2. If not, and if you have a staging site, please try the following. We suspect a collision with the theme or another plugin might cause this problem. If possible, get your site into a minimum environment, switching to a default WordPress theme like TwentyTwenty-Four and having no plugins activated except WPML. First, you must check if the problem persists when just the theme is switched to TwentyTwenty-Four (for example). If it persists, deactivate all plugins except WPML and its add-ons. Then, please check if the problem persists. If it does not continue, start by activating the plugins individually and checking when the issue comes back, then report to me which plugin was the culprit.

I updated the WPML plugin to version 4.7.5, but the issue is not resolved. Users Niki, Elena, Elise, and Anniina still cannot be added as translators. We will check solution number 2 next; however, we do not think this is a theme-related problem. We have also tried disabling several plugins to see if they might be causing the issue, but the problem remains. It’s just frustrating because we have been experiencing many problems with WPML over the last two months. We have opened numerous tickets, but none of those issues have been resolved so far. |

Hi, and thanks for the access details. The All-in-One WP Migration and Backup was already installed on your site. I activated it and took a copy of your site. After that, I deleted the package from your site, so it will no longer consume space on your server (the package was almost 3GB). I'll escalate this issue to our second-tier supporters and will keep you updated here on any news regarding this issue. I appreciate your patience. |

Hi Itamar, Apologies for reaching out again — we truly don’t mean to overwhelm with messages. It's just that we’re feeling quite stuck and frustrated. We hired new people over a month ago to help us with the website, and although they’ve been fully onboard and paid, we haven’t been able to resolve any of the ongoing issues. It’s becoming increasingly disheartening. We’re still facing the same problems: disappearing images, URLs not updating correctly after translations, trouble adding translators, and ( most important issue is this!!!), being unable to edit translated pages. This is critical, especially when we need to update information for destination pages ( so there's no confusion we never edited translations directly true elemntor ) We truly appreciate your support and understand things can take time — but we’re at a point where we just need some clear solutions. Thank you so much for your help and understanding. Best regards, |

Hi, Linda. I was just writing to you the following, as your response arrived. Our second-tier supporter has debugged this issue and determined that a corrupted option in the database causes the problem. The option is 'wpml-cache-translators-translate'. What you should do is remove this option from the wp_options table. (Note the prefix in your DB may be something else and not wp_.) If you know how to do that, please proceed after backing up the DB of your site. You can see a reference to the same issue in another ticket here: https://wpml.org/forums/topic/translators-removed-and-cant-be-added-agagin/#post-17108870 After removing this option from the DB, the users Niki, Elena, Elise, and Anniina should again be listed as translators in WPML -> Translation Management -> Translators. We focus on one issue per ticket in our technical support forum. Otherwise, tickets can get cluttered and confusing for both users and supporters. In this ticket, we are handling the translators' problem. I reviewed the history of your tickets and found that I was assisting you with the issue of images and URLs in this ticket. https://wpml.org/forums/topic/wpml-not-updating-images-urls-properly-in-translations/page/2/ After my reply on April 17, you have never replied, and our system has automatically closed the ticket after a couple of weeks. Is this ticket about the images and URLs problem you just mentioned here? Regards, |

Hi, The FTP details you provided are not working. You have not provided an FTP URL. However, I tried with the domain of your site and received this error: I reopened the ticket with the other issue I helped you with. Please see it here. https://wpml.org/forums/topic/wpml-not-updating-images-urls-properly-in-translations/page/2/ Please note that my weekend is Friday to Saturday, and I'll be able to continue checking this issue and helping you on Sunday. Thanks! I added the plugin and proceeded. I needed to edit the wp_capabilities key inside the wp_usermeta table and remove the "translate" value to correct this problem for the following users: Niki, Elena, Elise, and Anniina. Now I was able to add them as translators. Please see the attached screenshot. I only added the language pair English -> Czech. Please edit the translators and add the correct language pairs you need. Could you please confirm that this issue is now resolved? p.s. I removed the WP phpMyAdmin plugin from your site. Thanks, |
