This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:

After using the OTGS installer to download and activate the WPML and String Translation plugins on a new website, the plugins do not appear in the WordPress plugins list despite a successful download message.
Solution:

If you're experiencing this issue, we recommend you follow these steps after ensuring you have a full site backup:

  • Access your site via FTP or File Manager (like cPanel) and navigate to the /wp-content/plugins/ folder.
  • Check if the WPML plugin folders (e.g., sitepress-multilingual-cms, wpml-string-translation) are present. If they are missing, the OTGS Installer might have failed to properly download or extract them.
  • Visit https://wpml.org/account/downloads
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on “Download WPML manually”
  • Download the required plugin ZIP files manually (WPML Multilingual CMS, WPML String Translation, and WPML Media Translation)
  • Log in to your WordPress dashboard
  • Go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin
  • Upload, install, and activate each of the ZIP files manually

This solution might be irrelevant if it's outdated or not applicable to your case. We highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the issue persists, please open a new support ticket at WPML support forum.

Background of the issue:
I just installed the OTGS installer on my new website hidden link to install the WPML plugin and the String Translation plugin. I can select both plugins, click 'download,' and check the select box to activate them.

Symptoms:
After downloading, I get a message that the download was successful. However, when I then go to the plugins list, they're not listed.

Questions:
Why are the WPML and String Translation plugins not listed in the plugins list after a successful download?

Note: I pasted the system information from another website into this document. I couldn't proceed through the ticket process without filling in this field, and I can't get the system information from this website because WPML needs to be installed. Which is the crux of the problem.

Hello,

Welcome to the WPML support forum. I will do my best to assist you in resolving the issue.

This issue may occur due to compatibility issues such as file permission errors, server restrictions, caching problems, or interrupted downloads.

So, please try the following steps after taking a full site backup, and check if the issue is resolved:

  • Access your site via FTP or File Manager (like cPanel) and navigate to the /wp-content/plugins/ folder.
  • Check if the WPML plugin folders (e.g., sitepress-multilingual-cms, wpml-string-translation) are present. If they are missing, the OTGS Installer likely failed to download or extract them properly.
