This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is experiencing issues with updating translations using the Classic Translation Editor in WPML. Instead of opening in the Classic Translation Editor, it redirects to the standard WordPress editor. Additionally, the English version of the page displays in Dutch, indicating a mix-up in source and translation languages.
Solution:
We recommend the following steps to resolve the issue:
1. Edit the Dutch language page and disconnect it from its translation. This can be done by following the instructions here: https://wpml.org/faq/how-to-disconnect-translations-from-the-default-language-page-or-post/
2. After disconnecting, reconnect the page and set Dutch as the primary language.

If this solution does not apply to your case, or if it seems outdated, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If issues persist, please open a new support ticket at WPML support forum.

Background of the issue:
I am trying to update the translation of the page at hidden link. When I click the update icon in the pages list, it takes me to the English page in edit mode instead of the Classic Translation Editor. I want to use the Classic Translation Editor for this task.

Symptoms:
When I switch to the Dutch page, it says I am 'about to edit this translation using the standard WordPress editor,' which is not what I want. Additionally, the English version of the page displays in Dutch, showing the source language on both the Dutch and English pages.

Questions:
Why am I being directed to the standard WordPress editor instead of the Classic Translation Editor?
Why is the English version of the page displaying in Dutch?

[--- my orginal input ---]
Update the translation the translation of this page: hidden link

When I am in the pages list and click the update icon, it brings me to the English page in edit mode, rather than to the Classic Translation Editor. When I then switch to the Dutch page, it says I am "about to edit this translation using the standard WordPress editor." That's obviously not what I want.

And finally, when I visit the English version of the page, it's all in Dutch, so the front end shows the source language on both the Dutch and English page.

It looks like WPML doesn't know anymore what the source page is and what it's translations are.

Thanks for your reply. Could you please navigate and edit your primary language page and make sure the WPML Translation Editor is selected as shown in the attached screenshot?

Hi,

If I edit the primary language, I see the attached screenshot.
If I added the translation, I see the same as in your screenshot.

It appears that WPML has swapped the primary and secondary language.

How to fix?

Thanks
JP

Thanks for your reply. That's not the primary language page. Please share access to your Website and I will show you how to change the primary language using a screen recording.

Thanks for your reply. This is what I've done to change the primary language of the page. hidden link

1. Edit the Dutch language page and disconnect the page from the translated page https://wpml.org/faq/how-to-disconnect-translations-from-the-default-language-page-or-post/

2. Then, reconnect the page and set the Dutch language as the primary language page.

Awesome that fixed it. Even most of the original translations came back.

No idea how this has happened.

Thank you for your help!
