Background of the issue:
I am experiencing an issue with autosave on my WordPress site using WPML. The problem occurs intermittently on some pages and posts, not all. I have previously discussed this issue in the WPML forums, where it was suggested to remove the translation from the main page, duplicate the page, and check if the issue persists. We tested this on our staging environment, and the issue still occurs.
Symptoms:
Autosave happens randomly on some pages and posts. After making changes, an autosave is stored within 30–40 seconds. However, if I refresh the page, make additional changes, and wait again, the autosave disappears after a reload.
Questions:
Can you test the autosave issue specifically on the page we shared and provide a solution that works in all scenarios?
I will need to closely examine your website. Therefore, I will require temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) to a test site where the problem has been replicated, if possible. This will enable me to provide better assistance and determine if any configurations need to be modified.
Please note that it is important to have a backup for security purposes and to prevent any potential data loss. You can use the UpdraftPlus plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/) to fulfill your backup requirements.
Your upcoming reply will be treated with confidentiality and will only be visible to you and me.
✙ To resolve the issue, I may need your consent to deactivate and reactivate plugins and the theme, as well as make configuration changes on the site if necessary. This emphasizes the significance of having a backup.
Hi Kor,
Could you please let me know how I can share the project credentials with you?
Also, please note that the staging site we shared is currently being used for ongoing work. I kindly request that everything will be restored as it was once the troubleshooting is completed on your end.
The site hidden link is multisite but i will share access for the main site, where the issue occured,
Thanks for your patience. My apologies for the delay in response. Could you please record a short screen recording showing me the issue on your Website? You can use this free tool for recording purposes hidden link
I've completed a thorough check and can confirm that autosave does not trigger on newly created pages.
Regarding the page you shared hidden link , I tested it with the WPML plugin active, and autosave worked as expected. However, when editing the same page without the WPML plugin, autosave fails, as shown in the attached screenshot.
Could you see if you're able to replicate this on your side as well?
We want to disable autosave. It works correctly for new pages, but it does not work for the shared page.
Autosave should be completely disabled—regardless of whether WPML is active or inactive—for any page, whether it's newly created or already existing.
Please help us disable autosave for the shared page as well.
The same autosave issue is also occurring on this post. hidden link
Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure if there is an option or a workaround for this and I will have to escalate this to our 2nd Tier Support for further investigation. I need ftp access and a snapshot of the site. Alternatively, with your permission, I can create one myself. For this purpose, I typically recommend using the free plugin "Duplicator." If you're already familiar with Duplicator (https://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/), please skip the following steps and simply send me the archive file you downloaded.
To guide you further, please adhere to these instructions:
1. View the Duplicator instructions video: hidden link
3. If the archive file exceeds 400MB, please use Duplicator's file filters to exclude cache, wp-uploads directory, media, and archive files.
Once you have the archive file ready, kindly share the link with us. You can utilize platforms like Google Drive, Dropbox, or similar for file sharing, as the snapshot file might be large.
Please note that your next reply will be private, visible only to you and me. You can paste the file link there. Rest assured that once the issue is resolved, I will delete the local site.
