This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client reported two issues: 1. Formatting of specific texts on translated pages breaks using Elementor templates. 2. Difficulty making certain texts translatable, including job descriptions and selection buttons.
Solution:
For the formatting issue, we recommended removing the HTML tags used in Elementor and instead using the default styling options provided by Elementor. We provided a video tutorial to guide the client through the process. After making these changes, the client should translate the templates and re-translate the pages.
Regarding the issue of making texts translatable, we did not encounter this problem during our checks. However, we advised the client to open a new support ticket specifically for this issue, as per our policy to handle one issue per ticket.

Please note that the solution provided might be outdated or not applicable to your specific case. We highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the issue persists, please do not hesitate to open a new support ticket at WPML support forum for further assistance.

Background of the issue:
Hello,

we have two problems:

1. The formatting of specific texts on translated pages breaks
2. We have problems making a few texts available for translation

Regarding the first issue:
On the following two links, we're using the same elementor template:
DE: hidden link
FR: hidden link

As you can see on the FR site, the course cost is misplaced.

Regarding the second issue: We have issues making text translatable on hidden link

The job descriptions of team members don't show up when translating the site or via string translation.
I already tried to activate the "detect strings" feature and visiting the site. Unfortunately I had no success.
Interestingly, the same "team" section is translated on the starting site: hidden link
A biter further down at "Nos origines, nos objectifs et notre concept" there are selection buttons "Geschichte", "Ziele", and "Konzept". I'm also not able to translate or detect these.

Symptoms:
1. The formatting of specific texts on translated pages breaks. 2. We have problems making a few texts available for translation. On the FR site, the course cost is misplaced. The job descriptions of team members don't show up when translating the site or via string translation. I already tried to activate the 'detect strings' feature and visiting the site, but had no success.

Questions:
How can I fix the formatting issue on translated pages?
How can I make certain texts translatable, especially for job descriptions and selection buttons?

I would like to look at this directly on your site. For this I would need temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) to your site, preferably to a test/staging site where the problem has been replicated if possible.

The required fields can be found below the comments section. The information you enter is private, i.e. only you and I can see it and have access to it.

I may need to replicate your website locally. To do this, I need to temporarily install a plugin called "Duplicator" or "All in One WP Migration" on your website. This will allow me to create a copy of your website and content. Once the issue is resolved, I will delete the local website. Let me know if this works for you.

IMPORTANT

Please make a backup copy of the site files and database before giving us access.

- If you do not see the wp-admin/FTP fields, this means your post and site login details are being made PUBLIC. DO NOT post your website details if you do not see the required wp-admin/FTP fields. If you do not, ask me to enable the private box. The private box looks like this:

Thank you for sharing. Where is the sidebar setup? Please tell exactly where I can find it, in the backend. Also, if you applied Custom CSS, please also tell me where I can find the code.

Hello Lucas,

weird, I didn't recieve a notification E-Mail for your answer.

Here are the links to the templates:

According to our developer, there is no custom CSS.

Hello there,

Changes I'm making to the default template, aren't being reflected on the post, in the default language. There's likely some mismatch in the template and post, or another issue on your website. Please check the video:

hidden link

See how the changes made on the template, do not get applied to the post that in theory uses it?

Regardless of that, I noticed that those 2 specific texts, that are showing unformatted on the FR translation, are using custom HTML tags, what might be causing the issue. I couldn't confirm a workaround or solution, since the changes on the template do not get applied. Please verify that for me, so I can test solutions and investigate the issue. This is not WPML related (I deactivated WPML and the behavior was the same).

Hi Lucas,

thanks for checking!

We actually have three templates for three different types of courses. I'm very sorry that I didn't explain this more clear.

I created the following list of templates with one example for each template

Template 1 "The events calendar template": hidden link
Example course: hidden link (You can see your changes here)

Template 2 "Webinar": hidden link
Example course: hidden link

Template 3 "Course without date": hidden link
Example course: hidden link (This is the course you thought the template 1 was used on)

I removed the <div>'s and <span>'s on template 1, translated the template and looked at hidden link - Unfortunately it didn't solve the problem.

One more important thing regarding translating these templates: There is a very strange bug while translating these templates, which was discussed in an earlier ticket: https://wpml.org/forums/topic/translation-not-completable-or-cancellable/

The TL;DR is: There is an incompatibility between the theme ("Educavo") and WPML which causes translated pages not to be set as "translated" and therefore not updating the translation. To work around this problem, we need to do the following to translate the templates:

1. Change the German "original" page
2. Change to a default theme
3. Start the translation
4. Change the theme back to the Educavo child theme
5. Complete the translation

To top it all off, if the first 3 steps take too long, the PHP process gets stuck and needs to be restarted.

I'll create a video of the process as it is so specific. I can also check with our developers if we're able to update the parent theme. (Educavo)
Maybe this bug is fixed in a newer version.

Can you please make my next answer private?

Hey there,

Thank you so much for sharing. I was actually able to solve the issue by using the default styling options from Elementor, instead of the HTML tags that were being used. You can check the video:

Please make sure to remove the HTML tags, translate the templates and re-translate the pages that the issue should be resolved, in FR as well. Let me know.

Regarding the other issue you mentioned, on translating the templates, I didn't encounter it. But in case you want a second check, please open a new ticket to discuss it. Due to our policy, we can only check one issue per ticket, so it's best to create a new one on that.
