Background of the issue:
I'm working for my client nikistrbian.com and trying to ensure the site layout on the Finnish translated site corresponds to the English version. The issue can be seen at hidden link.

Symptoms:
The Finnish translated site has a more narrow page layout compared to the English version, despite having the same default settings. The menu is only in the first column and not spread out to three columns like on the English site.

Questions:
Why is the Finnish translated site layout more narrow than the English version?
How can I make the menu spread across three columns on the Finnish site like on the English version?

Hello,

Could it be that you have not yet translated the Templates, Templates Parts,
and Patterns at WPML > Translation Management > Dashboard?

You need to create a job for each item. You can use automatic translation or assign the jobs to yourself and then access them at WPML > Translations.

Make sure to complete the translations to 100%.

Best regards
Andreas

Hi, could you please not turn on automated translations without my consent. I just had to re-create already translated content. It kept reverting back to the auto translations so I have turned it off. I'm certain the layout problem has nothing to do with the translations, as after you had turned it on, the problem persisted. Any other ideas?

My apologies, but I did not have any access to your website, which is why it is impossible for me to make any changes to your site, like enabling "Automatic translation" or other settings.

You have not yet answered my question:

Are the Templates, Template Parts translated at WPML > Translation Management > Dashboard?

Hi Andreas,

Of course, I have not given you access. My apologies! I still don't know how it was turned on, but the main thing is that it is turned off now.

Hmm, have translated the nav menu and cannot locate any templates in the translation management section so if you have any other suggestions?

Everything else is going smoothly and we are still is process with finalising translations to the pages, but please see photos for reference with what is happening with the layout. The menu is obviously not inheriting the layout and the page has a border even though they share the same default settings. I can change this manually, but it should inherit it from the English page right? 🙂

Basically, you need to manually adjust the mega menu settings in each menu in each language. The WPML > WP Menus Sync feature will not be able to handle those settings.

If I edit the Finish menu item for Portfolio I am able to select a different layout. I have set it now to Mega Menu Standard Layout.

Awesome, thank you so much for your help! I thought it would be a simple solution, but just couldn't figure it out.

As for the page layout, does that need to be manually changed for each page?

Thanks again!

Thank you for your kind message and I am glad to be helpful!

Yes, I solved the issue by manually changing the layout on the translated menu item using its mega menu options.

Hi, the menu layout works now, but I was still waiting on what was the issue with the page layout, did you see any issues there? I guess I could manually change these, but I have the same settings with the Finnish page as I do with the English one, so can't see what the issue there is. The Finnish page is obviously narrower than the English one. Cheers!

Somehow the global page settings were not identical between the original page and its translation.

See screenshot.

Now, I usually would expect that those settings will be copied over from the original page to the translation when translating the page, which seems not to be the case here.

I will run a test on a new test site to see if I can recreate the issue, but I suspect is an issue related to Kadence PRO. I will let you know in case I will need your cooperation on this matter.

To solve this issue, go to WPML > Settings > Custom Field Translation and click the link "Show system fields" beneath the section title.

Then search for the following fields and set them to "Copy".

_kad_post_content_style
_kad_post_feature
_kad_post_feature_position
_kad_post_footer
_kad_post_header
_kad_post_layout
_kad_post_sidebar_id
_kad_post_title
_kad_post_transparent
_kad_post_vertical_padding

Now, apply the translations of your pages again and the global page settings will be copied as expected.

Hi Andreas,

Thank you again for your help and quick response. I actually had these set to 'copy' already, but when I went to save my settings, it kept giving an error message that said that my selections could not be saved. Regardless, this has now been solved as the layout is inherited on the Finnish page now. Thank you so much again! 🙂

Hi again,

I'm still getting the error msg when tried to save these settings. The layout is inherited on the front page but not the rest.

Please see img attached.

Indeed, I realized those error messages but I could not confirm that the settings were not saved.

It seems the minimum requirements on the server are not met:
https://wpml.org/en/home/minimum-requirements/

Could you please increase the WordPress memory limit (WP Memory Limit) to at least 256 MB? WPML requires at least 128 MB.
Your current values are:

PHP Memory Limit 512 MB
WP Memory Limit 40 MB

To do this, you need to connect to your website's server and open the wp-config.php file in a text editor. The file is located in the WordPress root directory.

Add this code to the wp-config.php file to increase WordPress's memory:

define ('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M');

Add this just before this comment:

// That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging.

The current values can be viewed under WPML > Support > WordPress.

These settings can be restricted directly by your hosting provider. Therefore, I recommend contacting them and asking them to change them directly if the changes are not applied immediately.

If this will not solve the error message, please let me know.
