Background of the issue:
I am trying to update the customizer in WordPress and encountered a WPML bug.

Symptoms:
Instead of a clean website, I got a WPML bug.

Questions:
What causes the WPML bug when updating the customizer?
How can I resolve the WPML bug to achieve a clean website?

Hello, yes, this may be the 10th ticket created on this topic.
It's about the Astra strings admin_texts_astra-settings and your team's KNOWN bug that mixes original strings with translated strings. The bug used to occur sometimes without warning. It seems to have stabilized, perhaps with recent updates.

Now, I only had this bug after updating the theme customizer.

Fix this problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's unbearable!!!!!!

I've been having this problem for months, and it's seriously slowing us down, forcing me to spend precious time on it instead of working on what really matters to our e-commerce business!!!

Each time it occurs I have to do the following : WPML - Strings - admin_texts_astra-settings - Change default language to mixed strings - Translation management - Send same strings to automatic translation (at least for defaut english language).

Check this with your developper team. Thanks

Hi there,

I completely understand how frustrating this has been, especially given the impact on your workflow.

As mentioned, this was a known issue related to Astra and the Customizer, and it’s been addressed in recent versions of WPML String Translation:

From what I can see, you are already on the latest WPML String Translation version. Could you please check if the issue is still reproducible now?
If it is, I recommend trying the workaround in the errata page above and letting us know the results.

Also, so we can escalate this properly to our development team if needed, could you confirm:

The exact steps that trigger the problem on your site.

If it happens consistently after visiting/updating the theme customizer.

Any recent changes to your Astra theme or plugins before it reappeared.

Once we have this, we can forward it with complete details to our developers for review.

Thank you for your patience while we work on this together.

I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to test the issue.
(preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated if possible)

**Before we proceed It is necessary to take FULL BACKUP of your database and your website. Providing us with access, you agree that a backup has been taken **

I often use the Duplicator plugin for this purpose: http://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/
You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply.
The information you enter is private which means only you and I have access to it.

NOTE: If access to the live site is not possible and the staging site does not exist please provide me with a duplicator package created with the duplicator plugin.

Hi there,

I believe I see what is happening now.

The original issue was happening (the mixed language)

Then the fix was introduced in String Translation 3.3.3, this fix is no longer allowing translations in the customizer, meaning that all strings in the customizer should be set in the default language of the site.

In order to resolve this issue, ensure that all strings within the customizer are set in the default language of the site (English I believe).

Also, in WPML->String Translation these strings should all default to English, if they are not either remove the wrong string by deleting it or set it back to English but first verify it's set correctly in the customizer.

See screenshot of an example of a string not in the default language within the customizer.

You are seing the customizer in spanish.
Says that the string isn't in default language, however english is the default language.
And also says that translation in the customizer are not allowed anymore.
So how can you see the customizer in spanish?

I've followed the classic process - get rid of the translations and edit all the mess with original text. It's 20+ time I do it.
It will come back, no doubt about it.

Correct, the customizer is in Spanish but to avoid this mix up it should not be used to add translations.

Therefore where it says Leer Mas it should instead be Read More, and within WPML String Translation directly edit the string to add the translation.

It sounds like you already know these steps, therefore I suggest we keep this ticket open and if it mixes up again please let me know.

I have let our team know about this and we did a deep look into the staging site..the above recommendations were directly from our compatibility team that has been working on this specific issue.

For example -- editing the customizer in dutch language.

is this showing in the staging site we have access to or the live? If the live is it possible for us to take a look at the backend?

It's on live website.
Not a single change on this website. No update of customizer. We don't speak dutch here 🙂
Maybe auto update of vital plugins with hostinger.
Yes I can give you access, need the special form here on the ticket.
