This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is unable to save new settings permanently in WPML. After refreshing the browser page, old settings reappear instead of the newly saved settings.
Solution:
If you're experiencing this issue, we recommend clearing the caches on your site and server first. If the problem persists, try disabling all plugins except for WPML, String Translation, and Elementor to check for a plugin conflict. Reactivate the plugins one by one, saving the WPML settings after each to identify the problematic plugin.

For issues related to media settings not saving, understand that options like Duplicate existing media for translated content and Duplicate the featured images for translated content are not permanent settings but troubleshooting tools. Changes made under "How to handle media for new content:" in the Media Translation settings will be saved permanently.

To translate image meta information, enable "Translate media library texts with posts" under WPML > Settings → Media Translation. Ensure the "Duplicate" option in Media Translation settings is enabled for the image data to be available in the Advanced Translation Editor.

If these steps do not resolve your issue, or if the solution seems outdated or irrelevant to your case, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If further assistance is needed, please open a new support ticket at WPML support forum.

Background of the issue:
I am trying to desperately save new settings permanently in WPML. The issue can be seen on this page: hidden link

Symptoms:
Old settings come back after refreshing the browser page instead of retaining the new settings after saving them. I keep unchecking the Duplicate... options in the attached snapshot, but they keep coming back checked.

Questions:
Why are my WPML settings not being saved permanently?
How can I ensure that the new settings are retained after saving?

Hello There,
Thanks for contacting WPML Support.

I understand the issue you're experiencing. Once you save the settings, they shouldn't revert to the previous configuration. If you're using caching on your site or if it's enabled on your server, please try clearing the caches to see if that resolves the issue.

If the issue persists, it would be best to check if a plugin conflict is causing the problem. Please try disabling all other plugins except for WPML, String Translation, and Elementor. If that solves the issue, start activating all the plugins and after activating each, try to save the settings again. In this way, you will be able to pinpoint what exactly is causing the issue.

Please let me know the update. I will be happy to help if you need further assistance in this matter.

Best regards,
Prosenjit

I tried clearing browser and server caches, but to no avail.

All plugins are deactivated, except for Elementor and Elementor Pro.

The problem remains. I've tried in two different browsers, Safari and Firefox.

Hi There,
Thank you for the update.

As the issue persists, a closer inspection will be required to understand the root cause of the issue.

I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take a better look at the issue. It would be better to have a testing site where the issue is replicated.

You will find the needed fields below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply. The information you will enter is private which means only you and I can see and have access to it.

Maybe I'll need to replicate your site locally. For this, I’ll need to temporarily install a plugin called “Duplicator” or "All in One WP Migration" on your site. This will allow me to create a copy of your site and your content. Once the problem is resolved I will delete the local site. Let me know if this is ok with you.

IMPORTANT
-Please backup site files and database before providing us access.
-If you do not see the wp-admin/FTP fields this means your post & website login details will be made PUBLIC. DO NOT post your website details unless you see the required wp-admin/FTP fields. If you do not, please ask me to enable the private box. The private box looks like this:

Looking forward to your response.

Best Regards,
Prosenjit

Hi There,
Thank you for sharing the access info.

Please note that the options Duplicate existing media for translated content and Duplicate the featured images for translated content are not permanent settings but rather troubleshooting tools. These options allow you to duplicate images into translations if they haven’t been copied over for some reason. Think of them as a way to fix missing images in translations when they are present in the default language.

These options will always be selected, and after you save the Media Translation settings, they won't have any effect until you click the "Start" button below them.

The primary settings for Media Translation are found under the "How to handle media for new content:" section in the Media Translation settings of WPML. Any changes made in this section will be saved permanently and won't reappear after refreshing the page.

I hope this helps clarify things for you. If you need any further assistance or have additional questions, please don't hesitate to reach out. I'm here to help!

Best regards,
Prosenjit

Well, looking at the ATE for the page "Lanaudiere Alarm Monitoring", none of the images are there for me to translate. If I click on START, would it bring those missing image texts?

I just clicked on START, but the image texts are still missing altogether for that page.

Hello There,
Thank you for the update.

To translate the meta information associated with images, you need to enable the option "Translate media library texts with posts" found under WPML > Settings → Media Translation.

However, if the option to duplicate images to translations is disabled, the images will not be duplicated for translation purposes. Consequently, the meta information attached to the images will not be available in the Advanced Translation Editor for translation.

Please enable the "Duplicate" option in the Media Translation settings, as well as the "Translate media library texts with posts" option, and then try to retranslate the page. By doing so, the image data should be available in the Advanced Translation Editor for translation.

I hope you can understand. Please feel free to let me know if you need further assistance in this matter. I will be happy to help.

Best regards,
Prosenjit

Yes, that worked, but I had to make a small change on the page for it to take effect.
