This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is trying to optimize an English website for a French-speaking audience using French keywords with the Yoast SEO plugin on English pages.

Solution:
We explained that once the WPML SEO plugin is activated, it allows for the translation of various Yoast SEO plugin fields. This means that when translating content, the client also has the option to translate SEO-related information, which will be reflected in the translated post/page.

To include French keywords on English pages, the client can use the Yoast SEO plugin's meta box in the Editor to enter Meta titles, descriptions, keywords, and other SEO-related properties. The client can add French keywords in the meta fields to optimize English pages for a French-speaking audience without changing the content language.

When translating English content into French, the keywords entered in the meta fields will be available for translation in the Editor, allowing the client to translate them as needed.

We also recommended consulting the official documentation and support team of the Yoast SEO plugin for additional details on the Meta box and referred to a guide on optimizing page titles for SEO: https://yoast.com/page-titles-seo/.

If this solution is not relevant due to being outdated or not applicable to your case, we suggest opening a new support ticket. We highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. I chatted with someone earlier, and was referred to an article about translating SEO text. Not what I needed. Other than trying to SEO and translated pages directly, how to apply French keywords with Yoast on English pages??? I do not see how to do that.

The reason for this, and I'm sure I'm not alone with this issue, is that the website was created in English (because I'm more fluent in writing in English), but my client base is mainly French-speaking.

So, if I do some keyword research to find out what my respective audience uses, most likely their search terms will be in French. So, if I input English keywords for English-speaking Canadian searchers, then translate into French it won't necessarily match my French-speaking audience who may either use totally different search terms or translate the keywords differently than I do.

Hi,

Yoast SEO is fully compatible with WPML.

Please review this guide on how to use Yoast SEO and WPML along with installing our glue plugin (shown in the guide)

This section discusses adding keywords:

Hello There,
I hope you're doing well. I've taken over this ticket and would be happy to assist you in this matter.

I'll be glad to clarify how WPML SEO can assist you. Once you activate this plugin, it will enable translation capabilities for various Yoast SEO plugin fields. This means that when you're translating your content, you'll also have the option to translate SEO-related information. This translated information will then properly propagate to the translated post/page.

Now, since you want to include French keywords on your English pages, the Yoast SEO plugin provides a meta box in the Editor where you can enter information like Meta titles, descriptions, keywords, and other SEO-related properties. Please check this screenshot: hidden link

You can add French keywords in the meta fields available within the Meta section, get related French keyphrases, and in this way, optimize your English pages for a French-speaking audience. This won't change the language of your content but will help your site rank for French queries in search engines.

Since English is the primary language of your site, when you're translating the English contents into French, you'll see that the Keywords that you've entered in the meta fields are available for translation in the Editor. From there, you can translate the keywords from the editor if you want.

For additional details on the Meta box added by Yoast, I recommend consulting the official documentation and support team of the Yoast SEO plugin. Additionally, this guide on optimizing page titles for SEO (hidden link) may help to understand the basics.

I hope the above information helps. But, feel free to let me know if you need further assistance or clarification. I will be happy to help.

Best regards,
Prosenjit

Not resolved, but no options available to resolve it. Yoast refers to you, and you refer to Yoast.
