[Waiting for user confirmation] Installed RankMath and suddenly the category link for one language does not work (404 error) the oth...
This is the technical support forum for WPML - the multilingual WordPress plugin.
Everyone can read, but only WPML clients can post here. WPML team is replying on the forum 6 days per week, 22 hours per day.
Background of the issue:
I installed RankMath and noticed that the category link for the German language does not work, resulting in a 404 error, while other languages are functioning correctly. I was trying to access the German category link: hidden link. This link works when entered manually. The issue can be seen here: hidden link. The French and Italian links work fine: hidden link and hidden link.
Symptoms:
The German category link results in a 404 error, while other language links work correctly.
Questions:
Where can the German category link be changed?
1. Navigate to WPML → Taxonomy Translation → Product Categories.
2. Check if all fields are properly filled in for "Translations of taxonomy Category labels and slug", including the Plural translation field.
3. If any fields are empty, please complete the missing translations.
Our development team is aware of this case and is currently reviewing it.
Once done, please verify if the issue persists. Let me know how it goes.
I translated all taxonomy entries. This however, did not fix the issue.
I went to string translation and searched for product category.
It looked like there was a pending or stuck translation. Fixed it and now it works.
There is something strange in the product categories.
The base language is english, so all translation should be made from there.
Most of the entries are correct apart from some.
There is Gifts with base language english and translations.
Then there is an entry in every other language French, Italian, German with all translations.
I noticed that when swiching language and going to the products, the products show up in English (base language), but not in the translated languages. It's probably a link issue, but I can't figure out where to look.
I had removed the redundant categories I mentioned before in the product categories page. Maybe that could have caused the issue.
In the WPML taxonomy product categories they are still present, though.
The Website works OK in all languages, I just can't edit the translated products.
Products --> All Products --> then change Language

Looks like I opened a can of worms.
