This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is trying to update the WPML plugin but the settings are not visible in the backend, and the translated websites cannot be seen.
Solution:
We recommend creating a full website backup before proceeding. Then, deactivate and delete the current WPML plugin. After that, manually download the latest version of the WPML plugin by visiting WPML Downloads and selecting "Download WPML manually". Install and activate the plugin manually to potentially resolve the issue.
If this solution does not seem relevant or if the problem persists, please open a new support ticket with us for further assistance.

Hi there.

This issue looks to me like it could be either caused by server-related causes or a compatibility issue between WPML and (at least) one of the active plugins or the active theme.

Also, when the plugin versions get too old, you might have issues updating straight from the backend.

I recommend that you first create a full website backup and then remove the plugin completely (deactivate and delete) > then manually download the latest version from here (https://wpml.org/account/downloads/ - select "Download WPML manually") > then install and activate the plugin.

This way (going with a manual update), we might get over this error.

Please let me know how things go.
