This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: The client is trying to create a staging website using WPvivid and encountered an issue where WPML was not activated on the staging site. They were concerned about how the choice between 'This is only a copy' and 'I changed the address of the site to this new one' would affect the WPML license on the live site. Solution: We advised the client to re-register WPML after every website migration or domain change. Here are the steps to follow: 1. Visit https://wpml.org/de/account/websites/ 2. If the site URL is already registered, delete it from the list. 3. Enter the site URL again to create a new site key. 4. Click on "Show key" and copy it. 5. Enter the key under Plugins > Install > Commercial (tab) to re-register WPML. If WPML is still registered, de-register it first. If you do not register WPML with a valid site key, you might not be able to use the Advanced Translation Editor and will not receive automatic updates. Your Multilingual CMS account allows you to register 3 production sites and 9 development sites. Please read this guide for more details: https://wpml.org/faq/how-to-remove-the-this-site-is-registered-on-wpml-org-as-a-development-site-notice/#what-are-production-and-development-websites

This is the technical support forum for WPML - the multilingual WordPress plugin.
Everyone can read, but only WPML clients can post here. WPML team is replying on the forum 6 days per week, 22 hours per day.
Background of the issue:
I am trying to create a staging website with WPvivid, which is marked as compatible on your website. I had reported this issue here: https://wpml.org/forums/topic/compatibility-with-wpvivid/. Unfortunately, the ticket was closed prior to solving the problem.
Symptoms:
I expected to see a fully functional staging site. Instead, I got a staging site without WPML activated. The compatibility with the free version of WPvivid is not useful, since it does not allow to copy back the staging site.
Questions:
Can you please answer the question from WPML (I am trying to make them resume the compatibility with your plugin:
---
On a staging site of the live site, when we see the message 'WPML detected a new address for this site', it gives 2 options:
A. 'Yes, this is only a copy'
B. 'I changed address of the site to this new one'
Will the choice we make affect the live site? For example, if we choose B. 'I changed address of the site to this new one', will that make WPML license on the live site become invalid?
Before this ticket gets assigned to one of my colleagues, I will try to help.
That is correct. When you create a copy of the site, please select A: this is only a copy.
You might want to take a look at this page, too, as it contains essential information that you might need when WPML sees that the current site has been copied over a different domain. Again: you must set that new site to "this is a copy of the main site."
I hope that you will find this information helpful.
I have a few other questions from WP Vivid regarding your process:
---
The article says:
Using a Copy of Your Site
If the site you are using is a copy and your original site is still running:
WPML will treat it as a new site, so you need to register it. This will allow you to receive automated updates and add translation credits to the site copy.
Any pending translation jobs will be canceled.
We get some questions about it:
1. What does ‘so you need to register it’ mean? Does it mean we need another WPML license for the staging site?
2. Can 1 WPML license be activated on 2 sites at the same time? Because that involves license overwritten when pushing a staging site to live or update a staging site from live. We have to consider that when figuring out a solution.
3. We tested on our local sites, after we created a staging site, we selected A: This is only a copy, then we are asked for a migration code. Is the migration code a WPML license?

thanks for your answer. But can you confirm that the website will still continue to work, even if I do not update my account, but that I will not be able to add new and manage existing translations ?
