This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: The client experienced an issue where the domain humandesign-berufsberatung.de was duplicated in their WPML account after moving it to a new server and changing its status from 'under development'. Additionally, there was confusion regarding the management of prepaid credits after these changes. Solution: We confirmed the current site with remaining credits and unified the account entries to show only one site. We also transferred the remaining credits from the older account to the current one. To manage similar scenarios in the future, we advised the client to: 1. Visit WPML account sites to remove any current sites and the WPML key assigned to that domain. 2. Generate a new WPML key for the desired domain. 3. In the site's backend under Plugins > Add new > Commercial, unregister WPML from the old key if necessary, and re-register WPML with the new key. 4. Assign credits as needed, following the guide on how to assign automatic translation credits. This process helps in managing credits and ensures that the site is correctly registered under a single, updated WPML key.
If this solution does not resolve your issue or seems outdated, we recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. Background of the issue:
I managed to duplicate the domain humandesign-berufsberatung.de as a registered site as well as on 'Sites Using Prepaid Credits'. We recreated this website on a different server, using a temporary domain. We set this temporary domain as 'under development' for WPML. After finishing development, we moved the domain yesterday and switched the temporary domain to the correct one.
Symptoms:
Now there are two instances of the domain in our account. The 'new' site is still defined as 'under development'.
Questions:
What's the best way to get the duplicated domains 'united'?
How can I manage the prepaid credits with respect to the duplicated domains?
You should see only one site now in your WPML.org account area and I added the remaining "41418" credits from that older account to your current account so that you can take advantage of them. 🙂
Hello Mihai,
yes, I saw it ...
But now it's gone ... what happened:
- humandesign-berufsberatung.de was still said to be a development site
- so I de-registered it and assigned a new key
- afterwards again TWO keys were assigned to it ... and I decided to delete the older one
- it was said the the credits will be available in my account ... but it's now 0
Can you help?
And do you have some hints for me how to handle such a scenario in future, so that I don't have these problems?
I thought that all you wanted were the credits that got stuck to it.
Now you should see it again, I made it visible for you again but you can always go here (http://wpml.org/account/sites/) > remove any of the current sites + the WPML key assigned to that domain > then you can generate a new WPML key for the domain that you want > then you go to that site's backend area > Plugins > Add new > Commercial > UNregister WPML from the old key if needed > RE-register WPML with the new key.
I hope that you will find this information helpful.
At the URL I shared above, it also shows you how you can remove credits from a site.
So you should always have full control over removing or re-adding credits back to a site.
Sometimes, credits can get stuck.
So, please let me explain why I think this situation with the credits might be happening.
When you initially install and set up WPML, an automatic translation account id is created automatically in the process.
If you uninstall/reset WPML or reinstall/set WordPress from scratch, then a new automatic translation account id will be generated and the credits will get stuck in the old account.
On this page (https://wpml.org/account), you should be able to click the "add/remove credits” button and move the credits back to your WPML.org account as it shows in the documentation.
Then, you can go here (https://wpml.org/account/sites/) > remove the current site key > generate a new one > then go to your website's backend > Plugins > Add new > Commercial > UNregister WPML from the old key > RE-register WPML with the new key.
And after that, you can re-add the credits.
This way, through this procedure, you move stuck credits back to your WPML.org account and then you re-establish correct connection to your site through a fresh new key so that you can assign credits to the site.
