Background of the issue:
I am trying to translate pages in bulk using WPML, but it is not working. Previously, it wasn't translating custom posts in bulk when selecting more than 3-4 posts. In the last two days, even converting a single post resulted in a 504 error, and credits were utilized. I have addressed PHP notices and warnings pointed out by Andreas in a previous ticket. I have disabled a plugin causing a PHP warning. Additionally, after using WPML, all URLs have a '?' at the end of the slug. Link to a page where the issue can be seen: hidden link

Symptoms:
Bulk translation is not working, resulting in a 504 error when converting a single post. Credits are being utilized despite errors. URLs have a '?' at the end of the slug after using WPML.

Questions:
Why is WPML not translating pages in bulk?
Why am I getting a 504 error when converting a single post?
Why are credits being utilized despite errors?
Why do URLs have a '?' at the end of the slug after using WPML?

Hi there,
Thank you for sharing the credentials requested

I've double-checked the site's configuration and everything seems to be correct. The error in the video you shared doesn't appear, so I suspect that the cause of this issue might be related to the site's environment if it hasn't disappeared yet. I recommend double-checking if the issue disappears with a default WordPress theme and only the WPML plugins are active. If the issue disappears in this minimal setup, I recommend activating the theme and then the rest of the plugins, one by one, until the issue appears again and you find the culprit.

Hi Carlos,

Thanks for your response and I have been trying that not of great help yet, but yea now WPML is translating at least 4-5 posts selected at once. IF you wanna give a try by looking into the issue to make more better, please do.

Otherwise, I have another issue to share with you i.e. regarding "?" which is appearing at the last of every URL, I noticed this thing since I have started using WPML on my site. Can you please track it down? I have been raising this concern since last one month, but now good response from the team. Am counting in you for this.

Thanks

I think you should look into this and try resolving anyway, cuz even after select 4-4 posts in one go and a successful translation, we can repeat this process only 2-3 times and in 4 attempt it does not even translate a single selected page/post.

Please do something about this, this process of failure from WPML has become a serious time killer.

Thanks

Hi,
Thank you for sharing the updated credentials.

I was able to reproduce the 502 error this time and I would like to ask you to read this information about the error: hidden link.

Then, please deactivate coudflare for a moment, flush the cache and double-check if the issue disappeared.

Hi Carols,

I appreciate your efforts, I went through the doc and am aware of most of the part, however, we are not using Cloudflare, from where did you get to know about cloudflare, Is it wappalyzer ?

I did flush the entire site cache from wp engine, however, it does not seems to work.
Thanks

Hi Carlos,

This site is being hosted on WP Engine and WP Engine provides Cloudflare services as part of its infrastructure, but it works differently from a standalone Cloudflare account.

WP Engine includes a built-in CDN powered by Cloudflare in all its hosting plans.
The CDN automatically serves static assets (e.g., images, JavaScript, CSS) from Cloudflare's global edge servers to improve performance.

WP Engine handles DNS settings for customers through their own DNS management interface. However, these records are often routed through Cloudflare behind the scenes.
If WP Engine’s nameservers are used, the DNS traffic is likely managed via Cloudflare infrastructure.

And That's why we are seeing Cloudflare as a server.
I also tried clearing the cache from WP Engine but It didn't helped.
What can be done next here. please suggest, also we have to have find the solution to this BAD GATEWAY ASAP, its too delayed and there are a lot things in line ahead related to its successful language translation feature.

Thanks

Hi,

Could you create a staging site with a copy of the live site in a different server and double-check if the issue disappears?

Hi Carlos,

I did tried clearing the cache from wp engine for stage and follow the process of bulk translation selecting all the fields from translation management and tried automated translation but aftet 1-2 minutes it got failed with BAD GATEWAY, I have screen recorded, If u want I can share it.

second, I have got 7248 credit left on stage but here in WPML dashboard its showing 0 for both stage and production, I guess I have to take that payment option " pay-as-you-go" but can you please tell mem how I can add those credits to production.

Also, If possible, can you please calculate and tell how many credits would be required to convert the remaining portion of content all over the site.

I hopeful to get this issue get resolved before the month end.

Thanks : )

Thank you for your message.
I think this issue will be solved soon 🙂

I have set your next message private so you can securely share the access credentials to the staging site.

Note: To get an estimate of the translation credits needed to translate the site you must follow the steps described in https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/automatic-translation-pricing/#calculate-your-cost

Note2: I will assign the translation credits back to the production site 😉
