I’m not Diana Garroway. I’m her web developer. I’ve been looking for a link to update her BROKEN version of WPML and I can’t find a link that doesn’t admonish me for clicking it, anywhere.
You people need to clean this web site up, people pay for this. And stop telling people who make free plugins to work around your bugs.
To download WPML, click on ‘My Account’, at the top of every page on wpml.org. If you need technical help, please post about it in our technical forum.
Hello. I am starting a multi-language site and have a few questions.
We will have one install of WordPress. Is there a way to have the language change based on what domain sends the request? The .com would be English while the .asia would be Chinese, for example. If not automatically, can we link directly to the specific language versions?
Will this work with Gravity Forms? Specifically, their pricing options. Would that include the currency?
Do you have any experience with the compatibility of themes from YooThemes?
2. We work with the GravityForms team and make sure that WPML and GF work well together. I’m not sure about what you mean with their pricing options. If you can tell me what you’re doing with GF, I hope to be able to respond better.
3. The folks from YooThemes contacted us and started working on compatibility with WPML, but I don’t think that they completed it. There might be some compatibility issues and I’m not even sure that their themes are localized.
i am considering buying your multilingual plugin.
how do i know for sure that its compatible with my template?
furthermore, how do i know which of the 2 purchase options suits my site the most?
thanks!
It’s difficult to say if WPML is compatible with your theme, because I don’t know what it is. Most themes and WPML run fine together. Themes are use WordPress API and are built for localization work smooth with WPML.
I have a few questions about the pricing for this plugin that I hop you could clear up. Here’s some background first:
I work in an agency where we produce a number of multilingual sites a year. The account I’m currently logged into was created by a third-party contractor who now works in our agency. We sometimes produce sites that are later handed to clients for them to maintain. With these points in mind:
– Is it still OK to use this license for a new site, even though it was originally purchased by someone working at another company (even though that person now works in our agency)?
– If we’re creating a site for a client, and later hand over control to them, are they OK to continue using the same license?
– What does the “yearly subscription” mean? If that expires, does it mean we can’t get updates for the plugin? How much does it cost to renew the subscription? Does it renew automatically?
If the contractors are actually working for you, it’s fine to let them use the same account.
When you install WPML in your client sites, you’ll enter your subscription email and upgrade key. The upgrade key is read-only and will allow your clients to auto-upgrade WPML without having to go through you.
Accounts are good for one year. After that, whatever you downloaded keeps working normally, but you will need to pay another %50 per year to keep getting support and newer versions from us.
We actually use the free version of the plugin for one of ours sites.
We will add to duplicate the wordpress base and the plugin on the same domain and we face the problem that as with wordpress import/export ou database copy , we have to manually put the relation between posts and language.
The payed version did solve this problem ?
Sorry, but I’m not 100% sure what you’re asking. There’s no ‘free version’. You’re probably using a very old version of WPML, from over a year ago.
The WordPress XML export and import doesn’t includes WPML’s language tables. To transfer a site with all its content, you should use MySQL database dump.
I am facing a problem with mixing RTL / LTR languages in one WP site. Base is English while I need to post RTL news what does WPML offer as a solution for this problem ?
“Look for the Multilingual Ready icon on themes before you purchase them.”
Where can I find how to make a WordPress template Multilingual? This means that PHP commands do I enter where? I was ever found on your Internet site, but now I can not find it.
Great stuff! I’m really looking forward to using WPML! One quick question:
I’m thinking to write my blog in 3 languages (english + 2 others with wpml). I was wondering if you had solution to the following:
I’d like to be able to setup individual optin boxes on my site to visitors to subscribe to my newsletter which would be written in the respective language. Do you have experience with this? Has any of your customer asked for similar features? I know that you don’t deal with optins, but maybe you have encountered with this in the past and could share the knowledge how you or your customer solved this situation.
Thanks Amir, but I was asking about the optins. Can I set up optins in the different langauge pages to get signups? If so, how? (some extra wordpress plugin, etc.?)
Hi, I’m using Twenty Eleven theme, actually, a child theme of Twenty Eleven. I’m interested in buying WPML but I’d like to know first if my theme will be compatible with WPML.
Thanks!
I’m going to build a multiuser WordPress blog for journalists with multilingual main website. I understand that qTranslate is not suitable for this project and will be glad to test WPML with multiuser WordPress.
Could you please provide me a temporary (2 days will be enough) WPML license for tests?
I’ve bought WPLM and would like to say it s working really great. I was wondering if there is a expiration time of a WPLM licence or is it entirely mine forever 😀
Anyway great plugin .
thanks
We have a requirement for the website http://rekogw.com. The client wants the website in Spanish and Chinese. As per my knowledge this is possible with your plugin and the plugin will create URL’s as rekogw.com/es and rekogw.com/cn.
but the client wants it as separate sites http://rekogw.cl and rekogw.com.cn Let me know if this is possible with WPML plugin
Hi – Is the WPML plugin compatible with WP MultiSite?
I need to build a site where the core (mainly static) content is available in 5 languages controlled by 1 admin, but groups around the world can have control of their own small sites/wp dashboards in the language of their choice. I’m wondering if the domains would work as: http://www.sitename.org, francais.sitename.org, espanol.sitename.org for the static sites and http://www.sitename.org/newyork/ , francais.sitename.org/paris/ , espanol/sitename.org/puebla for the local sites. Would this work?
As I am using additional plugins for outputting content in various places around the theme, my main concern is whether I will be able to provide content in different languages.
One example would be WP-Blocks. Do plugins as such have to be modified or will WPML handle content coming from it automatically?
PS: we do not need to link inner pages in English to the same inner page in German, French etc. – the link on top of the page can just go to the homepage in the foreign language.
Some of the setup is in WPML, some in the DNS and some in Apache. All this is required to tell the web server to direct all the domains to the same WordPress install. From there, WPML handles everything.
WPML also handles linking for you. If you like, you can edit links manually. However, WPML’s Translation Management module can also update links between translated pages automatically. This way, you just translate the texts and WPML keeps all links correct, in each language.
I am looking at this as a solution for a client of mine, what we are looking to do is be visible in different search engines for different languages. What my question is is how does this plugin work for seo purposes, is the translation called dynamically on demand or will there be a unique url created for each translation that creates a permanent static page (obviously wordpress so static as you can get) that can be spidered easily in the search engine and added to a sitemap?
We would mainly be looking to use it with woocommerce and the plugin that has been created to integrate your plugin with that so can the same be said for this as well?
Different languages get their unique URLs. They are saved as different posts in the database. The XML sitemap will include all pages in all languages, letting Google learn about all the content in your site.
WooCommerce and WPML work fine together and we’re actively working with them to make everything compatible.
Hi,
i would like to know, if i want to deactivate or remove wpml plugin later from my multilanguage website (wp), will my website be back normal before using wpml plugin? or i need to remove all translation from post and related?
WPML doesn’t mess your content. If you uninstall WPML, you’ll get the site back exactly as it is now.
If you’ve already added some translations, they would all appear as one language. If you don’t want these translations to remain once you remove WPML, you should delete them first (you can do this in batch) and then remove WPML.
I am considering purchasing WPML.. However, I have a concern regarding images: how can I use different images for different languages? (for example: I have an English logo and an Arabic logo and I want to use a different logo for each language on my site).. how is that possible?
This is not a problem. If the images are part of a page or post, you will just upload different ones per language. If they are in the theme, use can use simple conditional PHP to load the correct using WPML’s language constant.
I’m not sure about that theme. We haven’t tested it with WPML. Can you check with the theme author if he did any testing with WPML? The author has an account in WPML.org and we’ll be happy to assist with any testing.

Hi
I have to build a multilingual site that has up to 18 languages. Is this possible with WPML?
Is there a max number of languages on a site?
Thanks
There’s no limit to the number of languages. You can add as many languages as you need.

1. WPML can put different languages in different domains. Have a look at this FAQ page for the required setup on the server:

You can see here what’s included in both packages:

Most people use our CMS package.

Hi,
I wanna ask,
Is it OK use the multilingual blog of WPML for a website?
Yes. You can use the Blog version on a full site. Please have a look here to see what’s included in each of the different versions:

Dear Sir,
I am facing a problem with mixing RTL / LTR languages in one WP site. Base is English while I need to post RTL news what does WPML offer as a solution for this problem ?
Regards,
The RTL support will need to go into your theme. Have a look at this blog post, which explains what we did for our own site when we added Hebrew:
http://wpml.org/2011/12/adding-rtl-support-for-theme/
“Look for the Multilingual Ready icon on themes before you purchase them.”
Where can I find how to make a WordPress template Multilingual? This means that PHP commands do I enter where? I was ever found on your Internet site, but now I can not find it.
Thanks
Franziska
Have a look here for a guide that we put together on writing multilingual-ready themes:

This shouldn’t be a problem. You can easily create newsletters in each language and sent to the rights subsribers. We do that too on our sites.

Sorry, but we don’t have any arrangements for trial accounts. If you buy WPML and decide that it’s not for you, we can always refund your order.

Will wpml work with linkedwithin?
Sorry, but I don’t know what linedwithin is. Is it a theme?

You can put languages in different ‘folders’ or in different domains.

WPML runs fine in a multisite environment, however, not in the configuration that you’re describing.
You cannot have different languages in domains in multisite mode. You can use language ‘directories’ or language arguments. If you want completely different domains per language, or subdomains, you can use WPML with Domain Mapping. Have a look at this tutorial here:
http://wpml.org/documentation/essential-multilingual-plugins/multilingual-site-network-with-domain-mapping/
As I am using additional plugins for outputting content in various places around the theme, my main concern is whether I will be able to provide content in different languages.
One example would be WP-Blocks. Do plugins as such have to be modified or will WPML handle content coming from it automatically?
I honestly don’t know what WP-Blocks does. We’ll be happy to work with the author of this plugin and check for possible compatibility issues. If that author is interested, please refer him here:
http://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/go-global-program/
we are thinking about using this plug-in. We use Word Press and want our foreign language sites hosted on different URLs (not having a http://www.livethelanguage.cn/de or http://www.livethelanguage.cn/fr but a http://www.chineseinchina.de).
We will do the translations manualy.
How does this tool work with different url websites in wordpress?
PS: we do not need to link inner pages in English to the same inner page in German, French etc. – the link on top of the page can just go to the homepage in the foreign language.
WPML supports this mode of operation. Please have a look here for instructions on how to set it up:
http://wpml.org/faq/server-setting-for-languages-in-different-domains/
Some of the setup is in WPML, some in the DNS and some in Apache. All this is required to tell the web server to direct all the domains to the same WordPress install. From there, WPML handles everything.
WPML also handles linking for you. If you like, you can edit links manually. However, WPML’s Translation Management module can also update links between translated pages automatically. This way, you just translate the texts and WPML keeps all links correct, in each language.

Different languages get their unique URLs. They are saved as different posts in the database. The XML sitemap will include all pages in all languages, letting Google learn about all the content in your site.
WooCommerce and WPML work fine together and we’re actively working with them to make everything compatible.
Perfect, thanks

ok how about the CSS.. what if I want to use different CSS for each language.. is that possible?
cuz in some language you will need to switch to “right-to-left”
and if yes, is it possible on the blog version too or only the CMS version?
hi,
i am considering buying your multilingual plugin.
i use geo places v4 theme ( templatic.com)
is it compatible with my theme.
thanks for helps.

I’m not sure about that theme. We haven’t tested it with WPML. Can you check with the theme author if he did any testing with WPML? The author has an account in WPML.org and we’ll be happy to assist with any testing.
