  1. Hello WPML,

We are thinking of purchasing this Plug In to use for our Tour website so that all tours and buttons are translated into different languages.

While we can translate into German, Dutch and Spanish for example I was wondering if there is a cost involved in translations sent out to WordPress Users to Translate? Is there a network of WordPress translators that we connect to locally or do we need to know people able to translate and invite them in to do it?

    Many thanks

    Shaun

  2. Dear Support

i have a couple of question before buying this product.
1- I need to translate a website to Arabic language but i don’t need to use the drop down menu as a widget, i need to create another link such as http://www.domain.com/ar to tranlsate into Arabic language but the default website is English.

2- what version should i buy, i am looking to translate, menu, posts, pages.

    regards.

    • You should get the full ‘Multilingual CMS’ version. It lets you translate everything in WordPress, including menus, posts, pages, all custom types and any strings that don’t belong to a specific post.

WPML lets you display a language switcher in different ways. This includes as a widget, footer links, language menu or using your custom language switcher.

  3. Hi,
I have to integrate meta content in a website for a client in 4 languages. The URL of the website is : http://www.camping-serigons.com/
The problem is that the website has been build with Q translate before. So i cannot personalise the meta title and description in 4 languages, they are all in french (I have tried to install ALL in one seo, but the problem remains. Is WPML able to solve that problem ? And in that case, can i delete Q translate before before intalling WPML without losing content ? And what about ALL in one seo then : do I also have to delete this plug-in if I get WPML and am I going to lose important content ?
    Thanks
    Patrick Gheysen

  4. Hello,

WPML seems like a perfect solution for the multilingual needs for my company (Finnish + English).

I tried extensive googling, but did not find the answer to a question I’d like answered before purchase.
My company would have two very similar main pages: Finnish & English. I know WPMl handles translating menus & pages. But what if I want the Finnish site to have a page & a menu section but not in the English site? Does this leave an “empty” menu item in the English site? Or is it ok to have some pages be the same (translated), but some pages & menu items different on the 2 languages.

I’ve got the same issue with the /posts-page. I was thinking of running a small devblog on the side, accessible with a link from the main page. This can be done by using the WordPress /posts -page as explained here http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-create-a-separate-page-for-blog-posts-in-wordpress/
But will this page then display only posts in the visitor’s language, or in all languages? If possible, I would like this posts-page to only display posts that have a translation in the visitor’s language. Is this possible through the WPML functions?

    Thank you,

    • When you use WPML, you can translate some content, leave other content untranslated and write new content in each language, independent of the other languages. You choose.

So, if you decide to leave some content only in English, it will not show up in Finnish (by default). WPML can auto-duplicate that content for you, to the Finnish pages, so that it will appear there. This is something that you can control.

For the blog, WPML lets you display the posts in the default language on all languages. Many people, including us, only translate a small number of blog posts. However, they want to have all their articles appearing on the blog in all languages. This is the default, if you want, you can choose to have only posts in English in the English blog on posts in Finnish in the Finnish blog.

Is this what you are looking for?

  5. i am still beginner in WordPress do you recommend me to use this plugin r i have to know some re-requisites before working with WPML. within my level of experience can i create something like http://wpml.org/showcase/www-kdv-language/ where the language switcher is embedded in the header.

2- Do you have translator engine for Arabic.
3- If bought the WPML , can i install it on multiple WordPress sites with the same License.
4- Implementation of cross-linked pages does it need any developing o its a feature in WPML.

    • 1. WPML lets you display a language switcher in different ways, all without any coding. This includes in a menu, a widget area or footer.

      2. WPML doesn’t translate your content. It’s a tool that lets you translate yourself. You can also send content to offsite translators.

      3. You can install WPML on your different sites.

      4. You don’t need to develop anything to have content link to translations. WPML does this automatically.

  6. I see you define a term of a year on both the Blog and CMS Multilingual. Does this only apply to the updates and support or does it mean that the license for the plugin runs out and must be renewed to continue using the plugin?

    • When you buy WPML, you get support and upgrades for a year. If you decide not to renew, the plugin that you downloaded will continue to work normally. You will just not have access to new versions or to our support.

  7. I was wondering if WPML will allow for admin area language selector, based on logged in user. For example, if I have 20 people logging in to the admin area of the site but 10 speak English, 5 speak Spanish and 5 speak French, I would like them each to be able to select the language they would like to view the admin area in and that information be remembered for their next visit.

    • Each user will be able to set his/her admin language separately. You can set the default admin language and each user can override it in the profile page. This setting is persistent per user.

    • You don’t need to modify WPML to add new languages. WPML comes pre-configured with the names for over 40 languages. If you even need to add more languages, go to WPML’s admin screen, click on Languages and then ‘Edit languages’. You can enter the language name, locale, flag and translate other language names to that language too.

  8. We have a pre-sales question. We are looking to translate an English site into Korean, Chinese, and Vietnamese. We don’t have any translators. Am I understanding that this plug-in doesn’t do the translation, it only allows translators to edit the English? Where does one find a translator? What is the cost for translation? What languages are offered? Will the 3 languages we need, which are Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean, be the only ones displayed as translation options? We don’t want a long list, just these 4. We’ve never done a translated site before, so we’re not sure about the details of what we need to do first. What’s the difference in this plug-in and Google Translate?

    Thank you in advance.

    • This is correct. WPML doesn’t translate your content automatically. It lets you translate, or send content to translation services. Through WPML, you can get professional translators from ICanLocalize. You will find translators to all these languages (including both Traditional and Simplified Chinese). Translation costs around 0.09 USD / word, per language. If, for example, you want to translate 1000 words to all 3 languages, the approximate cost would be $270 USD. ICanLocalize offers translation to many more other languages.

Your WordPress site will offer to visitors only languages that you translate it too. If you get translation to Korean, Chinese and Vietnamese, these will be the only languages available to visitors.

Google Translation does machine translation for your site. Usually, Google Translation produces text that is “somewhat understandable”. Your visitors will have a general idea about the text, but it will be far from accurate. This is especially true with Google Translation for Asian languages. But it’s free and instant.

Professional translation means that a person, who studied translation as a profession and does this work for a living, translates your site. You can probably imagine that the quality of the translation will be quite different than the free, automated and instant Google machine Translation.

      Does this help?

  9. Hello. Can I use this plugin to translate other plugins? For example, if I have a plugin that says ‘university’ can I translate that plugin with this plugin to always say ‘school’ ?

    Thanks

    • WPML lets you translate any string that’s wrapped in GetText calls. This includes texts in the theme and in other plugins. For this to work, the texts that you see need to be wrapped in GetText calls. Otherwise, they’re not detectable. You can verify with the author of the other plugin that they are indeed following this WordPress convention. If so, these texts will be translatable with WPML.

  10. Dear WPML Team:

There doesn’t seem to be any way to reach WPML after purchase, so i am writing here instead.

We purchased Multilingual CMS for Life over an hour ago but still have not received our login details/account details so we can access the site as a member and download the plugin.

Why is that? Why isn’t there any means to reach you after sales is done? We tried sending emails to addresses posted on the forum but we get an Undeliverable Error message. None of these addresses exist!

We sent a tweet to your CTO/Founder @wpml but he has not replied.

All we want is to get our login (username/password) details so we can sign in and make use of what we paid $195 for.

We double checked with the credit card company and payment went through. Here are the details of the transaction which we got via email:

We hope you reply to this email without delay.

    Bingoy Gonzales

    • Good morning (it’s 7:38AM here). I just started for the day. I think that 2checkout delayed your order due to their automated credit card checks. Anyway, I just logged in and had it processed. I also resent your new account email. After you log in, click on Downloads. You will find WPML files there.

Sorry for this delay. Let me know if you need any more help.

    • Yes. WPML comes preconfigured with Welsh. Please note that WPML doesn’t translate your site’s content. With WPML, you site can have content in different languages. You will be able to translate your content yourself, or send content to off-site translators.

  11. Hello,

I have a simple but important question :
I’m planning on buying a lifetime license, but before that I would like to know if I can use WPML on two different websites or if I have to buy a new licence for each websites ?
    Thank you.

    Best regards.

    Nicolas Tainon.

  12. Hi,
We want to run a site in French and English.
We would like the French version to come up if the User Agent is French and the English page when the User Agent is anything but French.
Is it possible to configure it this way?

    Thanks,
    Matt

    • Sure. WPML includes browser language detection. You can enable it and first-time visitors will be automatically redirected to the content in their language.

  13. Dear Amir
I’m trying to get your attention on this posts:
    http://wpml.org/purchase/pre-sales-questions/comment-page-80/#comment-717760 and
    http://wpml.org/purchase/pre-sales-questions/comment-page-81/#comment-720684

But I couldn’t get no reply yet.
So here goes my question again:
About the license: is the license in my name? Am I the owner or my client?
And let’s say the client has access to FTP. Can he distribute the plugin with my license key? I mean how is it possible to control unrightous/illegal usability of the plugin after I install the full pack under my client website where he only would have access to a part of the plugin?

Sorry for being reposting this question here in the pre-sales but I would like to understand how the licensing works.

    Best regards.
    Thank you once again.
    H.

    • Sorry, I missed your follow up question.

The account is your. You can install WPML on client sites. When you enter your auto-upgrade key, it’s read only. Theoretically, your client may hack the DB and somehow load that value. It’s not easy and the client needs to know exactly what he is doing. This never happened before. If it does, we will notice a unreasonable number of downloads from this (your) account, inform you and replace the key.

If clients get WPML without your account info (via FTP), they will have only this specific version, without upgrades or support. It may be useful for a while, but you can probably imagine that for the long term, it will not be a good idea for them.

I really appreciate you checking about it. We’ve had no such problems in the past and if these problems happen, we have the means to handle them.

      Does this help?

    • Shopify is a hosted e-commerce platform. I am assuming that you have links to Shopify products, going out from the WordPress site. In that case, I think that WPML will be fine for you. Is this what you have, or something different?

  14. Hello,

I inherited a site that had an old, free version of WPML on it (2.0.4.1) and see that the upgrade now requires purchase. One question: Do you know if the latest version of WPML has better admin-side performance? We’ve noticed that the admin side of the site is quite slow and have pinpointed the old WPML plugin and one other as being the resource hogs. If you can tell us that the performance is improved, that would help us to make the decision to pay for the upgrade.

    Thanks.

    • We are doing a lot of work to always optimize and improve WPML. From the very old 2.0.4.1 version, a lot of time has passed. I think that there are over 1,000 changes in WPML since that very old release. Besides a lot of fixes and improvements, security and performance have been tightened as well.

  15. If we decide to buy the standard WPML Multisite CMS package now, would it be possible to “upgrade” to the Lifetime package in 1 year instead of the renewal?

    • Yes, you can do that. This way, you verify that WPML is good for you (99.5% of our clients think so) and upgrade to Lifetime at the end of your first year. When you upgrade, you only pay the difference.

    • I’m not sure about wpcoureware.com, but you should be fine with Sensie. We work closely with WooThemes people. As far as we know, Sensei and WPML will work fine for you. If there’s an issue, we can work it out between our developers and Sensei developers.

      • Thanks for your reply.
Will your your plugin support multilingual functionality for any WordPress theme.
Or should we use only your supported given themes?

  16. I have WPML version 2.6 installed on not for profit website. I was waiting for a version that will allow me to grant translators unlimited access to the entire content (about 1500 articles) to pick and translate any of them without waiting for invitation as before.

    Is it possible?
I have few translators (volunteers) and I’d like to give them translate anything without modifying the original or translation works done by others.

    Please advice.
    Thank you,
    Zion

    • This depends on how you translate with WPML. You can define users that will have access to any content and can translate it from the standard WordPress post editor. The Translation Management module works as a queue of translation jobs. Someone who’s managing translation still needs to go to the Translation Dashboard and send jobs to translation.

The scenario that you’re describing is pretty rare, so we haven’t implemented a specific workflow to support it.

  17. Hi,

I want to buy the USD 79 plugin to put at my client´s website. After one year, do I have to pay any annual fee/plan or can I use it lifetime (of course not having support)?

If I want to use it forever, do I have to buy the USD 179 version?

    Best regards

    Alexandre

    • When you buy WPML, you get a year of support and upgrades. You can renew that support and upgrades for 50% of the original price, per year. Please note that this renewal is for support and upgrades. If you don’t renew, the plugin that you downloaded alreay will continue normally.

The Lifetime account costs $195. It gives you support and upgrades to all future versions without additional costs.

  18. Hi – I bought the multilingual blog version in July 2013 and need to redownload but there are no downloads available. I thought the downloads were available for 1 year. Here is my order info:

    Invoice Number: 50522
    Order Date: July 22, 2013 8:19 pm
    Billed To: (PayPal)
    Transaction: 81N365169T372333H (Charged)

  19. Hello, I bought the CMS version few years ago, but there were issues related to the shared hosting. I am once again interested in buying the plugin, hopefully this time it will work fine.

What I want is to keep my domain.pl and have a new domain.net to keep the other language.

Now I am on a VPS. There are both Apache and Nginx. Nginx works as a reverse proxy to Apache.

Do you know if it should work with this configuration?
Do you know if should work fine with WP Super Cache?
Is there any demo/time limited version just for testing purposes?

    Thanks in advance

    • I don’t think that there should be any problems with Nginx. As always, the more complex configuration, the more room for unexpected issues. If you have any problems now with WPML and Nginx, our support team will help you resolve it. We have been using WPML with both W3TC and WP Super Cache and it’s working great with both.

You can install WPML on all your sites, including production and development sites.

  20. And another question that is vital to know before buying it:
-I have a working blog with hundreds of posts domain.pl
-I have also the domain.net which is a separate blog with translated manually posts (without plugin, just a stand alone blog)
    -I have a test domain.it
-I want the domain.net to be the one that will take the second language (in my case English)

Is it possible to start using the domain.it in order to translate and complete all the translations, and only AFTER it has been translated, change the domain name of the English version to domain.net and leaving the domain.it unused?
If yes, is it something easy to do?
Anf if yes is it possible to prevent google to read the content of domain.it?

I need to prevent google to read domain.it during the translations, because mainly what I will be doing is copy the translations that are in the other instance of domain.net… if google will see domain.it during this time can recognize it as duplicate content, because the same text will be in both .it and .net.

    Thanks

    • WPML lets you organize languages in different domains from one WordPress site, with several languages. The configuration for this is explained here:
      http://wpml.org/faq/server-setting-for-languages-in-different-domains/

What you’ll need to do is:
      1. Install WPML on your main site.
      2. Import the translations to that site. This process can be semi-automated. You can use the XML content export/import from the other site and then manually associate the posts with their translations.

As you write and edit the new content, you can hide the new language in the site. WPML lets you completely hide some languages, so that visitors (and Google) cannot see them, but you can. This feature is intended exactly for what you are doing now.

When you are done, enable that language and take down the old site.

      Would that work for you?

      • it looks great.
One last thing. let’s say that one day for whatever reason I’ll have to turn off WPML. Will all the post in English appear automatically in the .pl domain, thus creating ‘duplicate’ posts in different languages?
Or there is a way to bulk ‘hide’ one translation and keep its posts hidden even after the plugin is off?

        • If you disable WPML, two things will happen:

          1. The content in the Polish domain will vanish (because they will come from the same site, via WPML).
          2. The main site will include content in both English and Polish. This is because WPML will no longer separate the content to two domains.

Once WPML is disabled, it doesn’t do anything anymore, so you can’t use its GUI to hide languages.

What you can do, before disabling WPML, is to run a query and change all posts in Polish to ‘draft’. This will make them hidden if you later disable WPML. That query is pretty simple to write.

          • Thank you. Much appreciated.
I suppose you meant English. Because the mail site now is .pl and has only Polish. What I am planning is to add the English translation that will appear under a .net domain.

In this case from my understanding both languages will be visible in the real domain – the .pl.

P.s. does the WPML support help in writing the query or maybe has it ready and gives it to wpml clients? Probably it will be needed for testing purposes.

  21. Hi from France.
I planned to buy the Life Support for WPML when my actual contract is going to expire but I was pretty sure it was $99. Did you raise the price recently or the actual price has always been this one ? It’s possible that I’m making a confusion between EUR and Dollars !
    Best regards.

    • We haven’t changed the pricing of WPML. The yearly account has always been $79 and the Lifetime account, since it started about 1/2 year ago, was $195. If you already have a yearly account, you will only need to pay the difference ($116). All these prices are in USD. You’re right. Maybe you converted to Euros. The difference between lifetime and yearly is almost 100 Euros.
