This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client needed to add additional text to the translated page that indicates a download link leads to an untranslated PDF file. This text should only appear in the French translation. Additionally, the client wanted to use non-breaking spaces in the French translation to adhere to the typographical norms of the language.

Solution:
1. To add additional text to the translated page, we recommend using the manual translation approach. You can find detailed instructions on how to apply manual translations for specific pages here:
Using different translation editors for different pages.

2. Regarding the use of non-breaking spaces in the French translation, if the standard translation editor does not meet your needs, you might consider using the HTML widget in Elementor. This issue has been discussed in a forum post, which could provide a solution:
Elementor HTML widget content does not appear in advanced translation.

If these solutions do not seem relevant to your situation, please open a new support ticket with us, and we will be happy to assist you further.

Hello at OTGS, I would like to add additional text to the translated text. It appears only there and explains that the download link leads to an untranslated PDF-file. I'd have to add it below the links here, with an asterisk added to the original link:
hidden link

Same goes for the french way of using apostrophes. They add a space like this: « word ». I want to replace the space in html with a non-breaking-space, like this « word  ». But only in the french translation.

How would I do that?

Help is very much appreciated

Hi,

Thank you for contacting WPML support!

If you want to have different translation - so changes in layout, texts, etc, you can do this for the given page:

Hi, Bruno, thanks for your reply. But like I said: I already have translated the majority of the text and I want to make some additions to the translated text (from german to french). When I switch from «translate all automatically» to «let me choose» I still do not get the option to duplicate the language etc. like it is demonstrated in the tutorial you provided a link for. The option to duplicate is not there for me. So I am as clueless as before …

There is no need to duplicate anything - given that you already translated the page it is already there, so if you want to add some additional content you can either:

- Switch to WordPress translation as https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/using-different-translation-editors-for-different-pages/#how-to-use-manual-translation
- open in translation editor and add these additional translations

With scenario does not work for you?

Thank you, Bruno, but no, it does not work. In French you have a space between a word and an apostrophe: « like this ». So apostrophe and space need remain together. In html I use «  and  ». But I cannot add html to the translation editor. I have to go into Elementor builder to make these changes, which is waaaay more complicated.
Thanks
Olaf
