Background of the issue:
Since yesterday I noticed that I have issues with the default language in the dashboard. When opening any page while having English selected in WPML admin bar, the new page is opened as German version. I checked the WP general settings to find that 'Deutsch' is chosen as default language but it's disabled stating "When WPML is activated, the site language should be changed in the WPML Site Languages section." In the WPML settings English is default so no idea what is going on.
Symptoms:
Default language in WPML is set to English but WP settings are for German.
Questions:
Why is the new page opening in German when English is selected in WPML admin bar?
How can I change the default language in WP settings to English?
Welcome to the WPML support forum. I will do my best to help you to resolve the issue.
The WordPress profile language and WPML Dashboard language are not the same.
If we choose a profile language for the WordPress Dashboard, it will be showing all the Menus and texts in the selected language for the logged user.
In the case of the Dashboard language switcher, if we choose *English* (for example) it will only list the posts (Posts>>All Posts) and pages (Pages>>All Pages) in English. The Dashboard texts will be in German (if German is selected as the profile language).
If we select English as the User profile language, the WordPress Dashboard texts will be in English.
