Background of the issue:
I am trying to use automatic translation with 'Different engine' -> DeepL to translate a Danish post to English or French. The issue can be seen on this page: hidden link

I have tried all the troubleshooting with "Cancel in-progress automatic jobs" and more but every time i try to translate it gets stuck.

Symptoms:
The translation process gets stuck with a 'gear' icon, and I receive an error in the 'Advanced Translation Editor Error Logs': 'The xliff file could not be read.'

Questions:
Why is the automatic translation stuck with a 'gear' icon?
What does the error 'The xliff file could not be read' mean?

Hello,

here is the ticket.

Please let me know once you have checked if you are using Object cache and if any firewall is blocking wpml.org request.

If possible I would also suggest next test, but if you can create a staging site then please do and it is safer to check it there:

- Make sure you have a backup.
- Disable all other plugins and leave active only WPML plugins and main Elementor
- Switch to WP default theme
- Check if the issue still happens.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Drazen

Hello,

Thanks, I have clicked that you have logged-in from another domain, as live still exist.

Anyway, I have checked and it seems to be a know issue on our side. I have shared your case with our 2nd tier who is working on similar reports. Once they have some news I will share and get back to you.

Note it may take a few days before any update.

Regards,
Drazen

Hello,

please make a small change to your default language page, save and then re-send for translation.

Let me know how it goes and if it works fine now.

Hi Drazen,

I updated this page (added a space) in the original language (danish) hidden link - and I see that it has changed to review in both english and french and that I can review and accept the translation on both.

Now if I try the same for a post - hidden link - I get the refreshing-translation-status-symbol and, shortly afterwards the gear symbol "Language: waiting for automatic translation" - in the translation dashboard: hidden link - it says "Language: in progress (automatic translation)" and does not finish.

Hello,

1) Can you please go to next URL hidden link and re-register you website with new key:

- hidden link

2) Click “Check for updates” and update WPML plugins to latest versions.

Please make sure to create a backup, before doing any actions, just in case.

Try again to re-translate and let me know if this helps.

Drazen

Hi,

You wrote "new key", can I use the key from cityxee.com to re-register this staging site?

Hello,

you can not, each URL / website needs to have unique site key.

But you asked us if we could create a staging site for you to test the wpml issues we face.. 🙂

"Anyway, I have checked and it seems to be a know issue on our side. I have shared your case with our 2nd tier who is working on similar reports. Once they have some news I will share and get back to you."

Did you find the cause of the issue?

Hello,

yes, but automatic translation needs also needs right site key. You should be able to register new key as you are lifetime user, you can set it as development key in your account.

Yes we found the cause and it was fixed, but might be you are facing another issue and it is not as the one we have fixed, so I need to check further, but can not without using correct site key.

Drazen

I understand, sorry I misunderstood. 🙂

This is done and I have checked for updates and updated the "WPML Multilingual CMS" to version 4.8.3

It still seem to be stuck.

Hello,

thanks for getting back.

I checked and it seems next section is breaking the translation file, so it can not be delivered and saved correctly.

I see many weird HTML inside that text element (data stored, DIV, many p elements etc), not sure if you copied it from somewhere like that or you need all of that?

I would advise cleaning it up a bit and using regular simple HTML if you need it and breaking it up in more text widgets not all content in 1 text block.

Let me know if that works for you and if my suggestion helps.

Regards,
Drazen

Hi,

I took your advise, and changed the text-widget content to just be "test...", saved and send to translation (automatic translation)

It is stuck at 0% and has a gear-symbol "Complete the english translation" and the Translation dashboard says "English: in progress (automatic translation)"

If the content is the issue, is there more content on hidden link that I need to change?

Hello,

thanks for getting back.

I checked further, it seems it was not that text, while it should be cleaned up from HTML either way.

Issue was you were adding script code in HTML widget (Google and 3rd party service) and that was breaking the XLIFF translation file.

You should not add script / JS code directly in page builder. You can use custom coded plugin / WP hooks / child theme or shortcode to add them to pages.

I have translated EN page and it saves and finish fine now.

Drazen
