Background of the issue:
I am trying to translate my site on the Motors theme to a secondary language, English, using WPML. The site URL is hidden link. I have followed WPML documentation and support answers to set custom posts to translatable and translated taxonomies of the filters.
Symptoms:
The custom posts aren't shown in their listings anymore when I switch to English. Additionally, taxonomies for filters are translated but not showing on the filters in English.
Questions:
Why aren't the custom posts showing in their listings when switching to English?
Why are the translated taxonomies not appearing in the filters in English?
We've already tried most of the standard troubleshooting steps before reaching out, but the issue persists. Here’s a quick summary of what has been done so far:
1. Updated and re-saved all WPML settings, including post types and taxonomies (set stm_cars and all related Motors taxonomies to “Translatable– use translation if available or fallback to default language”).
2. Synced post taxonomies, re-saved permalinks, and cleared WPML cache and transients.
3. Re-registered the site key and confirmed the ATE connection works properly.
4. Added 'suppress_filters' => 0 to the Motors query files (e.g. stm_cars_on_top.php) as suggested by your AI assistant to ensure WPML filters are applied.
5. Scanned all STM/Motors plugins under WPML -> Theme and Plugin Localization, confirming strings are available in String Translation.
6. Verified that all car listings and taxonomies exist and are translated in English.
7. Tried translating filter taxonomies manually, but filters still show empty options and no cars appear in EN pages.
8. WordPress core and all WPML plugins are up to date
Despite all this, the following issues remain:
- Car listings are blank on English pages (homepage, Private Shortlease, Business Shortlease).
- Filters appear in EN but show no selectable options.
- The single car pages in English completely lose their layout, the gallery, specifications and design elements break (see screenshots attached).
I need to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site—preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated if possible—in order to be of better help. When you log in to leave your next reply, you will find the needed fields below the comment area. The information you will enter is private, meaning only you and I can see and access it.
Hi Andrey! I accidentally submitted my previous message as public and didn't fill in the private fields. Could you pls enable the private fields again so I can securely provide the wordpress and SFTP credentials?
Thanks!
Before I take a closer look, could you please update your parent theme on the staging site to the latest version (5.6.80), as well as any related plugins? It seems they haven’t been updated for quite some time, and the newer versions include several WPML-related fixes.
If possible, please also update your WordPress installation to the latest version.
Hi Andrey! I'm currently checking whether it will be necessary to keep this ticket open, as the updates caused a few bugs on the site that I'm trying to fix. I'll get back to you as soon as I have more clarity on the situation.
This support ticket will remain open for some time — feel free to close it if everything is resolved, or provide any additional information if you need further assistance.
