This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: The client was unable to save new thumbnails for product categories when WPML plugins were active. This issue occurred for both default and translated categories. Solution: We recommended the client to disable all WPML plugins temporarily to verify if the issue persists. If the thumbnails are correctly updated and saved with the plugins disabled, this suggests a potential conflict between WPML and the theme or another plugin. In such cases, we advise: 1. Ensure that all themes and plugins are updated to their latest versions. 2. Re-enable the WPML plugins one by one to identify which specific plugin might be causing the conflict. 3. Check the known issues on our website and verify if there's a permanent fix available for the version you are using.
If these steps do not resolve the issue or if the solution provided here is outdated or not applicable to your case, please open a new support ticket. We highly recommend checking related known issues, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins.

Dear Drazen,
Sorry for my delayed response, and thank you very much for fixing the problem. Could this also be the reason why the category thumbnails are not saving?
When I try to change the thumbnail of a category by uploading a new picture and clicking update, the old thumbnail automatically reappears instead of the new one I selected from the media library.
Best regards,
Ricardo
It is not related to page slug, can you please follow next questions and get back to me with a reply:
- Does this happens for default language category or translated?
- Is the correct image used on front and issue is solely in the backend?
- Does the issue still happens if you disable WPML plugins?
- It happens to both default as well as translated categories.
- I am not sure what you mean with the correct image, but I just uploaded a new 300 x 300 px picture to the media libraby and then edit a new category and insert this image via the library.
- When I disable every plug in except the categories of WMPL, I do not see any categories
You mentioned: "It happens to both default as well as translated categories.", this probably means it is not related to WPML; since WPML does not affect default language content in general.
To confirm, please disable all WPML plugins, and check if the same issue still happens for you.
Please make sure to create a backup, before doing any actions, just in case.
I have deactivated the three active WPML plugins, and indeed, after doing so, I was able to add a thumbnail to a Dutch category. Before deactivating the plugins, this was not possible. After updating the page, the picture became visible.
What I usually do is go to Products and then Categories in the WordPress sidebar. There, you can see an overview of all the product categories available on the website.
I would like to update the product categories that currently don’t have a photo on the Dutch website. For the translation websites (English and Spanish), I need to update every category photo as well, since they currently include the Dutch terms for the categories.
