This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem:
After translating product categories and attempting to synchronize the hierarchy using the guide at https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/translating-post-categories-and-custom-taxonomies/#sync-taxonomy-structure, the synchronization failed, requiring manual reassignment of the parent category.
Solution:
If you're experiencing issues with product category synchronization after translation, it might be due to a known issue where imported categories via certain tools can assign the wrong language to parent categories. We recommend checking the workaround provided in the errata at https://wpml.org/errata/product-categories-imported-via-wc-import-tool-can-assign-wrong-language-to-parent-categories/. If this solution does not apply or is outdated, or if you continue to face issues, please open a new support ticket. We also highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins.
