Hello I have translated a page from English to French and after making modifications design wise on the English original version the modifications don't appear in the french version are the translations by WPML static?? This is very troublesome as now the modifications I made to layout of the english page were not reflected in the french translated version as well

Hi there,

While waiting for one of my colleagues to help you, please review the following:

After making a change to the default language either in design or context it should trigger the translation to go into the state of "needs update" you will most likely see the "loading circle" icon.

You will need to click on the translation and re-save it or add any translation if needed for new context. Upon saving it the new layout or context will display.

To summarize: After making a change you will need to also update the translation. The only time you would not need to do this is if the transition is a "duplicate". (A duplicate is a copy of the original page/post)

Hello thank you for your reply I tried that and it didn't exactly work now I have made layout and design changes in the french version and the changes don't reflect in the english version.

Also I was wondering why is it that I can only do english to french translations but when I try to use French to english it doesn't work the translation jobs are completely empty to update the changes I made in the french version.

Please advise on how to proceed in this matter thank you.

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply.

Are you using the manual translation, by chance? https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/using-different-translation-editors-for-different-pages/. Or are you using our Advanced Translation Editor? Please bear in mind that you should not switch between them, otherwise we will have overwrite issues.

If possible, kindly record a video showing us the steps you're following, so that we can check if there is any issue.

About your question:

Also I was wondering why is it that I can only do english to french translations but when I try to use French to english it doesn't work the translation jobs are completely empty to update the changes I made in the french version.

Please double-check if you have all the language pairs associated to your user in WPML -> Translation Management -> Translators. You might need to add the French -> English language pair.

Looking forward to your reply. Thank you.

Hi, thank you for your reply as for the language pairs I have both of them activated for my Translator User.

As for the update from what I understood after changing something in the designer layout I should just get to the Advanced translator and approve the changes I did that but it didn't solve the issue. We have designers working on the front-end and translators updating and translating as needed. What would be the optimal workflow to have with WPML? Waiting for the design to be finished then updating the translations? That's what we tried but as I explained some design changes are not reflected depending on which version we changed the FR version or the EN version. Also can you please let me know where I can change the translation for the menu items in website? thank you for your help.

I updated the translation for the homepage after making changes to it but it still says it needs an update. I'm using only your Advanced translation Editor.

Hello,

I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take a better look at the issue. You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply. The information you will enter is private which means only you and I can see and have access to it.

Our Debugging Procedures

I will be checking various settings in the backend to see if the issue can be resolved. Although I won't be making changes that affect the live site, it is still good practice to backup the site before providing us access. In the event that we do need to debug the site further, I will duplicate the site and work in a separate, local development environment to avoid affecting the live site.

Privacy and Security Policy

We have strict policies regarding privacy and access to your information. Please see:
