Hi,
When I change some word or add a new sentence or paragraph on a page, I also need to update all the languages (12). I'd like to just use automatic translation than manually doing it, but have it only deal with the added / changed lines instead of translating all the lines again.
Is that possible?
If not, can you please add that feature.

Hello,
On the Advanced Translation Editor, the content is separated into segments.
Example: https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/advanced-translation-editor/#automatic-translation
If a specific segment is edited on the original content, then only this specific segment will need to get translated again into all languages.
There is no need to translate the whole content again.
Please let us know if you have any doubts or further questions.
Best regards
Andreas

How come when I do something like only change a version number, it says it's using a bunch of credits (nothing else changed).
Also, the way I want to do it is to go to Translation Management, find the items out of date, tick the box of each, go down to select translation options, selection "translate" on the languages the out of date page relates to (could be all, could be subset). Tick the "Translate automatically" then "start translating" button.
But this again, uses a bunch of credits. Why doesn't it only know what changed to know what to translate?

Could you please name us an example of a job ID or permalink of content that you updated and that charged too many credits, so we can review the translation and the used credits?
You can find the job ID at WPML > Translations or at WPML > Translation Management > Jobs if you use the translation mode "Translate What You Choose". You only need to adjust the display options (see screenshots).

Hello,
thanks for getting back. I have checked but I see those all jobs say were created in 2018, and I do not see they are translated so can not confirm issue.
1) Can you please translate the page 100%, save it. Make a small change and then re-translate, and share both job IDs, so I can confirm and check.
2) Please also record this process, so I can see the steps you do and maybe not what goes wrong. You can use free tools like LOOM.
Regards,
Drazen

Hi David,
Checking on our server, I see that you've updated two sentences and URL on the page hidden link
1. %7B%22url%22%3A%22https%3A%2F%2Fwww.terabyteunlimited.com%2Fdownloads%2Fterabyte_drive_image_backup_and_restore_suite_en_gui_trial.exe%22%7D
2. Restore Workstation Trust - Optionally restore a Windows Workstation trust with its domain.
3. Compatibility - Automatically recognizes and backs up used area of FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, HFS+, Ext2, Ext3, Ext4, BTRFS, ReiserFS, and XFS partitions.
4. %7B%2url2%22%A2%22%Fadd-to-cart3%3D1411%2%7D
140 credits consumed to translate the new content per language, translated from English into 12 languages: 140 x 12 = 1680 credits. The rest content is matched from translation memory.
So the automatic translation is working correctly, please check the attached screenshots. After translating a page automatically, you can edit the page in the original language > Click on the Pen icon in the language box to open the Advanced Translation Editor > Check the sentence that has the dash-line, it is translated automatically.
Refer documentation https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/advanced-translation-editor/
Looking forward to your reply.
Thanks

Hi,
I see you edited some pages:
1. hidden link
content update:
/language-translations/
/language-translations/
Version 1.28 Released 5/20/2024
Version 1.54 Released 5/19/2024
it takes 40 credits to translate new content per language x 7 languages = 280 credits.
2. hidden link
it takes 84 credits to translate new content into 7 languages.
3. hidden link
it takes 310 credits to translate new content into 12 languages.
Total is 674 credits + 1680 = 2354 credits. You can also generate the used credits report on your site > WPML > Translation Management > Tools tab > Usage report.
Also note that, the translation memory remembers the sentence (segment), it doesn't remember the words. If you change a word or a character in the sentence, the sentence will be re-translated, not just only the new word.
Please read more about translation memory in the documentation https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/how-wpml-keeps-track-of-your-translations/
I hope that makes sense.
