Tell us what you are trying to do? I'm beginning translation of Divi Theme Builder Templates

Is there any documentation that you are following? Yes - from Elegant Themes - hidden link

What is the link to your site? hidden link, but this is for setup (admin)

The documentation states: "How to translate posts and pages:
New content set it to be Use WPML's Classic Translation Editor."

I've include a screenshot so I'm crystal clear which part of the website I need to translate. Is there some reason why automatic translation can't be used? If I use automatic translation, does WPML remember the translations if I switch to the Classic Editor (I might have native translators refine or tweak the translations)? Thanks.

Elegant Themes recommends using the Classic Builder for Divi Theme Builder templates. Is it advisable to switch back and forth between Classic and Advanced? My site is mostly Theme Builder templates, but there are a number of regular Divi pages.

Also, your documentation states this "You might decide to change the translation method back to Classic Translation Editor or even WordPress editor. In this case, again, all edits done directly on translations will be lost. All edits done on the original page will have to be retranslated."

Does that mean that if I translate the main website using advanced, then switch to classic for a template, then switch back to advanced, say for a new language, the translations are lost? Or are the translations only lost if I try to retranslate a specific page that has already been translated with a different method?

Hi,

thanks for contacting us.

Before your ticket is assigned to one of my colleagues, please allow me to walk you through some initial debugging steps. This will help speed up the support process.

I'm not sure why Elegant themes advice to use the Classic Editor. The Advanced Editor is compatible with Divi. We'll contact them to clarify the issue.

About your question "if I translate the main website using advanced, then switch to classic for a template, then switch back to advanced, say for a new language, the translations are lost?" the only edits lost are the one you edited with CTE.

Examples

1.
- you translate a page/post with Advanced
- you switch to Classic
- you add a paragraph and translate it with the Classic
- you switch back to Advanced
You need to retranslate the paragraph added with Classic

2.
- you translate a page/post with Advanced
- you switch to Classic
- you never edit the page or the translation
- you switch back to Advanced
Nothing happens

This applies to all contents, including templates.
So if you translate automatically all your post/pages with the Advanced editor, then switch to Classic to translate only templates, and then go back to Advanced (if you need to add more posts for example) you shouldn't have issues.

I hope this explanation was clear for you.

Clear, thank you. I appreciate your patience.

Another thing missing from the Elegant Themes documentation is that the WordPress page the templates are assigned to has to be translated too, even if it's nothing more than an empty page. I suppose it should be obvious, but it wasn't obvious to me at first.
