Background of the issue:
I am trying to automatically translate everything on my site hidden link using WPML. I have used this plugin for a long time but I can't handle it now.

Symptoms:
All the pages are translated but some Elementor elements (theme's widgets) are not translated at all.

Questions:
Can you help me figuring out how to translate also the theme widget's content?

Hello,

Could you please let us know which are the Elementor Widgets that are not getting translated and which component of your site is responsible for those widgets?

WPML by default supports all widgets that are shipped with Elementor and Elementor Pro.

Every Custom Elementor Widget must have an XML configuration so that it can be translated using the WPML Translation Editor.

It is the theme author's job to create such a configuration in a wpml-config.xml file in the root directory of the theme or plugin.

Guide:
https://wpml.org/documentation/support/language-configuration-files/how-to-register-page-builder-widgets-for-translation/

We also provide the following plugin, which makes creating such a config easier, but we do not recommend using it in a production environment:
https://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/wpml-compatibility-test-tools-plugin/

If the author does not provide such a config, you can alternatively create one yourself. This config can be stored under WPML > Settings > Custom XML Configuration.

We can further offer a WPML test site on which we can recreate the issue and I assist you with a basic configuration for a couple of widgets, but if there are many affected widgets it would be better to reach the author of those widgets.

We offer a program for theme and plugin authors to support them on this matter which you could name as a reference to the author:
https://wpml.org/documentation/support/go-global-program/

---

Alternative: Use the WordPress Editor as the translation method instead.

Instructions for translating with the WordPress editor:
https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/using-different-translation-editors-for-different-pages/

Best regards
Andreas

The widget is just one, but I just saw a new theme update. (4th February).

I didn't find the configuration file in the current version, but they say the theme is WPML compatible.
Here's the theme: hidden link

We'll update the theme on Monday and let's see if they added WPML support in the last version.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Thank you for contacting WPML Support. Thanks for the update! After updating the theme, please try to follow the below procedure:

1. Open the default language page in Edit mode in which you are facing this issue.
2. Make a small change, for example, add a space or + sign in your page/post title.
3. Update the page by pressing the “Update” button.
4. Now, please remove that small change that did in step #2.
5. Update the page again.
6. Now, open the translated page in the WPML Translation Editor, and see if that element content is available for translation.

Kindly let me know the results,
Thank you

Thanks for trying the above steps. I’ve set up a fresh WordPress site with WPML and Elementor installed. Could you please follow the steps below to replicate the issue on a fresh site? This will help me generate the necessary XML for that theme element, allowing you to translate its content using the WPML Translation Editor.

1. Login to the fresh WP site by clicking on the auto login URL:
hidden link

2. Install the Hnice theme and its required plugin.

3. Create a new page and add the problematic Elementor element in it and try to translate it.

Please note that we only need the specific Elementor element functionality on this site; there’s no need to set up a full site or clone your existing one.

Thank you

Hi Norman,
thanks for your precious support.

I correctly installed the theme, in the Sample page (hidden link) you'll find the Hnice Heading element.

Thanks!

I’m able to fix it by following the below steps:

1. Added the below XML in WPML >> Settings > Custom XML Configuration section:

<wpml-config>
  <elementor-widgets>
    <widget name="hnice-heading">
      <fields>
        <field>title</field>
        <field>sub_title</field>
        <field>link>url</field>
      </fields>
    </widget>
  </elementor-widgets>
</wpml-config>

2. Made a small change in the default language sample page title and pressed an Update button to reload the translation.

3. Removed that change and pressed an update button again.

4. Opened the translated page in ATE and the custom theme heading element was available for translation.

5. I added the translation and it works correctly at frontend.

Default language: hidden link
Secondary language: hidden link

Could you please check and confirm?

Thank you for your cooperation

Thanks mate, it worked.
My next question is: there is any way to automatically translate the missing strings of all the website pages?

Thank you for your precious support.

You may try the below steps:

1. Take a backup of your site first for safety reasons.
2. Re-save the pages in which you are using Hnice Heading element. You may try WordPress bulk Edit/update method. hidden link
3. Go to WPML >> Translation Management page, select the required pages, and send them for automatic translation.

Thank you

Hi Noman,

Thank you for your response. Before proceeding with the automatic translation via WPML, I would like to clarify a couple of things:

Will this process consume additional WPML translation credits?
Will previously translated strings remain intact, meaning that only the missing strings will require new credits?
I just want to ensure that I won't be charged again for translations that are already completed.

Thanks for your support!

Yes, WPML uses credits only to translate new strings. However, previously translated strings using the WPML Advanced Translation Editor will remain intact and won’t consume credits again.

When you translate a page for the first time using the Advanced Translation Editor, it uses credits and saves the translations in the translation memory. If you re-translate the same page, WPML retrieves the existing translations from the memory without using additional credits.

To avoid unnecessary charges, please ensure you send the page for translation only when the translation "Needs update" icon appears as you can see in the attached screenshot.

I’d suggest you try with only one page first, if all goes well, then try in bulk.

Thank you
