Background of the issue:
I am trying to manage translated pages on my website. Each page should have two versions: the original in English and the translated version with a language prefix. For example, the translated page should be like this: hidden link. However, I also see this version: hidden link.
Symptoms:
I am seeing duplicate pages for translations. Instead of just the translated slug, both the translated and original slugs are appearing.
Questions:
Why are there duplicate pages for translations?
How can I ensure only the translated slug appears?
Thank you for contacting WPML support. I'd be happy to assist you on this issue.
Are you able to see the links in the language switcher as I reviewed your switcher and I can't see the mentioned links, can you provide me a screenshot showing where the url is being shown.
Thank you for your response. The issue is not related to the language switcher. The problem lies in the fact that both the original (English) and the translated (French) versions of the page exist simultaneously as separate URLs, causing duplicate content issues that negatively impact SEO.
For example:
• English URL: hidden link
• French URL: hidden link
I would like to ensure that:
1. Only the translated URL (with the French slug) remains active.
2. The English version does not appear under /fr/ and is redirected or hidden properly.
Could you guide me on how to configure WPML to prevent these duplicate pages from being created or appearing in the future?
Can you provide me more details where you find out the urls, if you manually entered the url, then it shouldn't be an issue as users will not be able to find those urls.
Are this urls in the sitemaps?
Look forward to your reply.
THanks
