Background of the issue:
I need to translate the submit button on my French version of the website. The issue can be seen on this page: hidden link

Symptoms:
I expected to see 'Soumettre' but instead, I got 'Submit'.

Questions:
How can I translate the submit button on my French version?

Hi there.

Can you please try this: go to your site's backend, switch to French from the top black bar (make sure you are on the French backend) > go to Pages > find this page > hover your mouse over > select "Edit with Elementor" > edit the form and change the button label > save the page.

Is that doing what you wanted?

If that doesn't work, please let me know what method you have used until now when trying to translate that button.

I will be waiting for your response.

Hi Mihai,

Thank you for your help! It actually worked for some buttons (So easy that I didn't think about it, lol).

However, I could not proceed the same way for the submit buttons on the following pages:

hidden link => (At the bottom)

hidden link => (To subcribe to my newsletter, I have 2 bottons for that on my homepage)

Hi there, and thank you for the update.

I'm happy to hear that we are making progress.

Certain strings may require a specific procedure to be located and translated.

Moreover, the proper method for translating strings greatly depends on how they have been incorporated into the theme/plugin. Some plugins might not even be written in a way where the coded strings are implemented in an "internationalized" way, so no multilingual plugin might be able to see the strings out of the box without some extra work upfront.

IMPORTANT: Sometimes, there are even duplicates of the same string, and only one of them is the correct one that needs to be translated.

Also, sometimes, simply removing the string (checking the box and removing it) and then re-registering it again by scanning for it (one of the methods below) and re-translating it resolves the issue.

Please attempt both methods and check if either of them resolves the issue.

Method 1:

Navigate to WPML > String Translation, and at the bottom of the page, you will find a checkbox labeled "Look for strings while pages are rendered." You can enable (check) that option, then go to the front end to a page where the string is displayed, and afterward return to WPML > String Translation to search for that string and see if it now appears.

Method 2:

They might be included as admin text strings if you can't locate them within WPML > String Translation.

Thank you for these information.

For the suggested method 1 (Look for strings while pages are rendered), I checked that out and I saw that: "This feature is only intended for sites that are in development. It will significantly slow down the site, but help you find strings that WPML cannot detect in the PHP code."

My website is live already. What does that mean? My website will be slowed down significantly?

For the method 2, I will explore that one.

Hello,

You can deactivate it later if needed. It is also programmed to turn off automatically after a certain period—once you activate it, a timer will start counting down.

This may require more server resources, but it shouldn't crash the site.

Please try both methods and let me know how they work for you.

Hi Mihai,

I did not follow your suggested Method 1 yet for the following reasons:

1. Your statement "This may require more server resources, but it shouldn't crash the site." "Shouldn't" means it not guaranteed, and that scares me little. Plus having my website slowing down significantly for this does not make me happy.

2. WPLM & HOUZEZ theme promote on both of their websites a perfect compatibility. Why should it be so complicated for me to translate my website? Shouldn't WPML and Houzez work on this together to solve these issues? Please note that I created my website with Houzez theme just a few month ago and I added WPML on it a few days ago. Shouldn't all the website be translatable easily if you claim a perfect compatibility?

3. I found more area of my website I cannot translate. Please see screenshot attached. This is the page you are directed to after clicking on the search bar tool (For Rent, For Sale or Sold) that you can see on my Homepage, immediately at the top. This feature of the website is a main feature of the Houzez theme, and if I am facing this issue, many users will face it. Shouldn't WPML and Houzez work together to resolve this, so WPML and Houzez users do not have to struggle translating their websites?

For your information, I am using WPML on another website using Astra theme, and it was so easy to translate my website, not like with Houzez theme, it is very disappointing to have to purchase a plugin, put so much work into this just for a translation. Sometimes I wonder if it would have not been easier to just create 2 different websites in different languages...

I hope you can understand my point here, take over and help me with these issues as I believe I shouldn't do this work myself. But if you think I am wrong, please explain your point of view, I am happy to hear it as well.

1. Choosing method one involves no risks, as you won't keep that option active all day. Our plugin automatically sets the timer for 2 hours from the moment you manually activate it, and the entire procedure takes just a few seconds. After that, you can easily deactivate it by clicking the button again.

2. Full compatibility means you can leverage the available WPML functionality, which includes features like scanning for strings on a page or scanning a theme/plugin, as mentioned here. This allows our users to quickly achieve their goals.

If you’re using a popular theme or plugin that receives daily, weekly, or monthly updates, you might need to follow a couple of extra steps to get WPML to recognize those strings. However, your subscription includes excellent technical support, and we’re always ready to assist you. Since you weren’t sure about following both steps, I wanted to hold off on asking for credentials and see how you progress with the second method (that usually works best in situations when we are dealing with admin-text type of strings and, if you were not able to find the strings there, there's a big chance the strings you are looking to translate are not admin-text strings, that's why we share both methods).

In some cases, we request site credentials right away, while in others, if there's a high chance the issue can be resolved with a few steps, we’ll share guidance first.

Some users prefer detailed instructions to accomplish their goals quickly, while others appreciate having someone jump in to help.

Please let me know how you’d like to proceed. I’m happy to log in and try to find the strings for you, but I need your confirmation that a backup of the site has been created, as well as the site credentials.

Hello Mihai,

Thank you for your support! I did try the "Look for strings while pages are rendered" option you suggested and I was able to translate most of the strings. I also tried option 2, however, none of the 2 method allowed to translate 100% of my site, but most of my website is now translated. So it's a good progress. Big thank you!
