Hi,

What is the logic behind product categories - I did some clean-up of categories in default (English) language and now all the old categories in Estonian language are still present and the new categories I added in original language are sitting on top of the category list. Also the amount of categories is different in the two languages. I have done the category sync in "Troubleshooting" menu. There were 0 items left after sync. How to make it so that the categories stay in sync when I deal with them in default language?

I decided to wipe all categories since it was a mess and I wanted to re-create them. They seem to be in sync translation wise but the hierarchy in Estonian language is wrong, they are all without parent categories. However, Shirts should be under Men's Clothing in Estonian too. I tried the Hierarchy fixing from Woocommerce ML and did not fix it.

Hi there,

Thanks for contacting WPML support.

Please try translating the categories directly in "WooCommerce → WooCommerce Multilingual" as explained here https://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/woocommerce-multilingual/#taxonomies and see if it works for you.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks!

Hi,

So you mean that I just translate the texts here? Is the taxonomy going to stay the same if the Estonian categorisation in Categories menu is different? I mean does WordPress always take the taxonomy hierarchy from default language setting?

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, it should take "hierarchy" if you're translating it using the WCML plugin. If it's not working, I would need to request temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated if possible in order to be of better help and check if some configurations might need to be changed

IMPORTANT: Please, note, a backup is required for security reasons, and to avoid any data loss, you can use the https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/plugin for these backup needs.

Your following answer will be private, which means only you and I have access to it.

✙ I would need your permission to de-activate and re-activate Plugins and the Theme and to change configurations on the site if required. This is also a reason the backup is critical.

Thanks!

Kor

I think the issue is now fixed, I did not encounter category issues anymore. Thank you.
