[Resolved] If using translation service (Crowdin) what is the approval page for?
This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: The client is confused about the functionality of the WPML Automated Translation Editor (ATE) and its interaction with the Crowdin translation service. They are experiencing issues with translations being overwritten, pages not rendering without approval in ATE, and the necessity of using ATE when automated translations are turned off. Additionally, they are seeking clarification on how to manually edit translations and how to update translations from Crowdin to WPML.
Solution: 1. ATE and Crowdin use different translation methods and cannot be used simultaneously. If you prefer not to use automated translations, switch to manual translations. 2. A page may not render if it's not translated 100% in ATE. Check the icon status for the translated page. 3. To avoid ATE and use manual translations, disable ATE and switch to the WordPress editor. For detailed steps, see our documentation on using different translation editors for different pages. 4. ATE cannot be used with the translation service method as they do not share a translation memory. 5. To update translations from Crowdin, send the page for translation, and once completed, send translations back from the dashboard. WPML will then sync the translations. For more information, visit our documentation on updating translations without resubmitting them to a translation service. 6. Any new changes in the default language page require re-translation.

Hi ,
Note! Uploaded the image of what page I refer to when using hidden link reference.
The (automated?) translation customization/approval/completion page is a mystery to me.
Could someone please explain how it works exactly in the following context:
1. We are using Tranlation Service for translations (CROWDIN) and we don't want automated translation service.
Initially, I thought this page hidden link just displayed what translations are pulled in, but this is not the case as I understand now, it seems it's overwriting the translations from translation service (CrowdIn) for the specific language. True or false ?
2. There was also an issue in the beginning that some pages were not rendered before I approved and completed them in WPML hidden link . (I might be wrong or it might have been tied with the template only page render bug issue which I created previously for WPML). Could this be the case that a page is not rendered because it's not approved on hidden link ?
3. Can we completely ignore those edit pages for translations which redirect to hidden link for automated translations if I've turned off all the engines for automated translations? Why is it still enabled if I've disabled all of the automated translation engines?
If it's meant for some translations correction, then it doesn't work, because when I open it up, it doesn't populate the content with the pulled in CrowdIn service translations, but puts some random translations instead (just tested it) . So where do those translations come from and what are these for?
4. Follow up question from previous context. How do we manually change translations, because if I open up the page for edit translations and it's all wrongly populated with some random content(translation engines turned off), this means I need to replace manually all the translations in WP hidden link with the translations already done on CrowdIn side. Or should I completely ignore this page if I do not want any automated translations and open up the specific language and edit straight ON the page of a specific language?
5. If I have wrong assumptions and this page is needed even when we want to only use Translation Service (CrowdIn), then how come it doesn't populate the page with correct content and why can't I complete without approving only selected texts, shouldn't there be an option to display default when no translations exist? Ignore this point if i'm at wrong assuption here.
6. Related CROWDIN service, when some translated text changes for example, how can we push in changes from CrowdIn to WP ? When we update CrowdIn translations, does sync help with pulling in updated texts or it's not possible like this?
6.1 Also, when we update content on the page, do we need to create new translation basket & send the whole page to CrowdIn every time? This means we need to approve all of the other translations on the page again and again. Is there a better way ?
All of the detailed explanations would greatly help me understand the logic built-into the WPML translations approval/completion & services usage for the pages.
1) Correct, ATE editor and Translation service use different translation methods and can not be used together.
2) If it is not translated 100% yes that could be the case, you can always check what icons shows for translated page, pencil means it is translated.
3) These are translation that you can also do manually inside ATE and same will always open unless you disable it and switch to WP editor, then clicking will open your 2nd language page edit mode.
6) You need to send page for translation and once it is completed in Crowdin, send translations back from the dashboard and WPML will sync translations.
6.1) Each new change in default language page needs to be re-translated.
Also please note we limit 1 issue per 1 ticket to keep things clear, I know you have some doubts but if you have any other further questions or issues on a specific topic, I kindly ask you to open a designated ticket.
Also, another question regarding this topic,
if we have used ATE to approve and Complete some pages, can we undo all of the ATE translations to only keep Translation Service parts ?
I know I went off track with some previous ticket bringing some other issues, but this I believe is one topic on ATE. Just trying to understand it's workings.
