[Resolved] The Home page has reverted from English to its original language
This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: You are developing a site and trying to translate the Home page to English using WPML. Despite following the provided instructions, the Home page reverts from English back to its original language. Solution: We have recently released WPML version 4.7.6, which addresses this specific issue. We recommend taking a full backup of your site before proceeding. After ensuring your site is backed up, please update WPML to the latest version. Once the update is complete, verify if the Home page remains in English as expected.
If this solution does not resolve your issue or seems outdated, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. Should the problem persist, please do not hesitate to open a new support ticket with us for further assistance.

Background of the issue:
I'm developing a site and trying to translate the Home page to English using WPML. I followed the instructions provided in the documentation.
Symptoms:
The Home page has reverted from English to its original language, despite following the instructions.
Questions:
Why does the original language appear on the Home page instead of English?
How can I ensure the Home page remains in English after translation?
Thanks for the confirmation. The issue happened because link between the original and translated Home page got broken, likely due to edits or updates. I fixed it by restoring the revision of Homeepage, unlinking and re-linking the translation, and re-saving both pages.
If it happens again, you can follow the same steps (as listed in previous reply):
- Restore the correct revision.
- Unlink and re-link the translation.
- Re-save both pages.
Revision History is a standard WP feature, more details in this short video: hidden link
Sorry for the delay, I was off over the weekend (Friday–Saturday). I followed these steps during the troubleshooting:
1. I restored a revision from the English Home page.
2. I used the last correct revision, which was from about 3 days ago.
3. To find the right revision, you can click the "Previous" button in the Revisions panel until you see the English content on the right side, then click "Restore This Revision".
I just can't accept this as a solution, this has never happened to me before. Now I have a problem with the other pages as well... after I launched the English version of the page via Elementor hidden link and I inserted certain changes, after I clicked Publish and did a refresh, the English version of the page appeared in Bosnian!
So, I did everything to prevent the pages from being linked before the start of the translation itself and was guided by the instructions from your knowledge base, and the problem occurs again. So, this is unacceptable to me.
I started updating the page via Elementor, entered the correction in English, clicked on the long Publish button, did Refresh and of course the page is in Serbian!!!!!!!!!!
I clicked on the Translate independently option for each page before I started translating the pages from Bosnian to English! I don't have time to restore versions for each page, unlink pages and relink, it's such a stupid and waste of time for a plugin that costs 99$!
Include a higher level of support, write adequate instructions on how to translate pages the way I do it, not like this!!!!
I will also solve this page this time, it would be good if you try to take a page that has already been translated from Bosnian to English and make some minimal corrections and then click on the publish button, refresh the page and you will see the result.
For this page hidden link i can not restore English version, I followed every step according to your instructions and even in Elementor the Bosnian language appears even though I previously restored the English versions, unlinked and linked the page again and it's not worth it, this is horrible, I really have no words!!!
Does this now mean that I will have problems with every page I try to update, I have project pages that I have translated, I have blog posts, I can't understand that this can happen even though I followed your written instructions and I can't understand that I have to wait several days for someone to respond even though you know this is urgent and needs to be resolved!
Can someone address this problem in more detail, can someone send me a video of the instructions with the exact steps of what I should do???
I do not understand that such problems are taken lightly and prolonged and that it is passed on to me to try something and you have not fully investigated the problem and now a new one has arisen!
Thank you for your detailed feedback, and I truly understand your frustration, especially after following all the correct steps. I’m really sorry this has been such a time-consuming and stressful experience for you.
To properly investigate this without risking your live site, I’d like to suggest the following:
- .I will set up a staging/test site on our test server (Cloudways).
- You can then migrate your current site there by following the simple steps (I’ll share those steps).
- This way, I’ll be able to safely reproduce and debug the issue in detail without affecting your live content.
Once we have it on the test/staging server, I’ll thoroughly check what's causing this issue when editing translated pages and provide a proper fix or workaround, as well as a clear set of steps you can follow going forward.
Please let me know if you're okay with this plan, and I’ll set up the staging site right away.
Thanks again for your patience, I’m here to help get this fully resolved
