it seems that url's aren't translation either. for example in this event there is a lnik to the events page but it goes to the NL version instead of the EN hidden link

Links have to be manually translated as explained here https://wpml.org/zh-hans/announcements/2020/02/translating-links-with-advanced-translation-editor/ . Could you give this a try?
