Background of the issue:
I am trying to ensure that translated Issues pages are accessible. Currently, if I visit a translated Issues page permalink, it redirects to its English version. I have checked the settings to ensure that Spanish pages aren't hidden, cleared the cache, etc., but nothing seems to work. Here's an example: hidden link. Additionally, it seems that the WPML settings keep reverting back even when I've set them multiple times for this site. For example, I make sure to set the custom post types to be translatable, but it seems to revert back every now and then, and I'm not sure what's triggering it.
Symptoms:
Translated pages redirect to their English versions. WPML settings revert back after being set.
Questions:
Why do translated pages redirect to their English versions?
Why do WPML settings revert back after being set?
Thanks for contacting us. Looks like some redirecting issue. I will need to closely examine your website. Therefore, I will require temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) to a test site where the problem has been replicated, if possible. This will enable me to provide better assistance and determine if any configurations need to be modified.
Please note that it is important to have a backup for security purposes and to prevent any potential data loss. You can use the UpdraftPlus plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/) to fulfill your backup requirements.
Your upcoming reply will be treated with confidentiality and will only be visible to you and me.
✙ To resolve the issue, I may need your consent to deactivate and reactivate plugins and the theme, as well as make configuration changes on the site if necessary. This emphasizes the significance of having a backup.
Thanks for your reply. Could you please grant me full administrative access to your staging site? Also, please update all WPML plugins to the latest version.
I set the role for the user account I gave you access to to `administrator` which is the highest level for us - are you still experiencing issues?
I tried to upgrade the plugin but I'm not seeing that option available, can you advise? Also, feel free to try to update the plugin as well on this testing environment, that's fine with us!
I'm having issues updating the plugin right now, and just wanted to check with you before I dive deeper -- The current version of the plugin installed is 4.7.3. Are you able to continue troubleshooting for now until I work to resolve this, or did you identify an issue where the latest update is required to continue troubleshooting?
Thanks for your reply. That's a very old version. You can always download the latest versions here https://wpml.org/account/downloads/ and replace the older versions manually. Could you check?
Regarding the WPML version, there have only been 4 non-beta releases since then (4.7.3), is this redirect problem a known issue with 4.7.3 and/or a previous version?
Thanks for your reply. The redirect issue is not related to the WPML updates. However, to continue with the troubleshooting, I will need to update all WPML plugins to their latest versions first. Once the updates are done, I can proceed with a more detailed investigation on your site to identify the cause.
Thanks for your reply. I'm getting "Your account or password is incorrect. If you don't remember your password," when I try to access your Website now. Could you check?
Thanks for your reply. I'm being redirected to hidden link when I try to open your login URL. Is this normal? Also, I'm getting the same credentials invalid error.
Thanks for your reply. Could you please check your server folder and make sure the /var/www/html/web/app/uploads/languages/wpml folder is writable as explained here hidden link
Then, register this staging site with a sitekey here https://wpml.org/account/sites/ in your account dashboard. Let me know once you've done that, and I will continue my investigation.
