[Resolved] FSE: translation menu does not display on the page
This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
If you are using the Site Editor (formerly known as Full Site Editing or FSE) you can translate your menus by sending the Navigation Menu for translation. This then allows you to use the Advanced Translation Editor to translate your links, ensuring they point to the translations of your menu items.
I spoke to WordPress support, they confirm the problem is with WPML.
What is happening is that the English version of the website is showing a menu called "primary" (no capital P). This is the new menu, the one I translated today.
The Japanese version of the website is showing a menu called "Primary" (capital P). This is the old menu.
Of course, any change done to "primary", and translating "primary", doesn't have any effect on the Japanese website, as it's showing "Primary".
Another things that I noticed: I just translated "Primary" (the old menu) to Japanese, but the Japanese website is still showing the English untranslated version of this menu.
This means there are two problems:
- The Japanese website is not showing the same menu as the English website
- The Japanese website is not showing the Japanese version of the menu that it is showing
Update:
- With the help of WordPress support, I could delete the old menu ("Primary") from the English and Japanese website.
- Now, the new menu ("primary") is displayed on the Japanese version. However, it's still in English. When I translate it, the translation job stays market as "In progress", even though I completed it 100%.
My issue is solved for now but honestly I have no idea how it got solved.
It seemed it was the sum of two problems.
The second one was that the translation job for the menu was stuck as "in progress" (for more than 1 hour after completion). Then at some point it moved to "completed". I don't know how.
