This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
You are trying to translate Gutenberg templates (both archive and single) for your site and encountering a JSON error when attempting to create translations directly in the backend.
Solution:
We recommend not creating a different template for each language. Instead, use Translation Management to translate the template from your site's default language. Please follow this guide for detailed instructions: Translating sites that use full site editing.

If this solution does not resolve your issue or seems outdated, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. Should the problem persist, please do not hesitate to open a new support ticket for further assistance at WPML support forum.

Background of the issue:
I am trying to translate the Gutenberg templates (both archive and single) for a site under development. I am following the documentation at https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/translating-content-created-using-gutenberg-editor/.

Symptoms:
I cannot create translations. Making a template in the other language in the backend results in a JSON error.

Questions:
How can I translate Gutenberg templates (archive and single) without encountering a JSON error?

Hi,

You should not create a different template for each language but rather use Translation Management to translate the template from your site's default language. Please follow this guide.

HI Itamar,

thank you for the reply. I have figured out how to create them. I do have to say that the guide is not very clear. It is quite confusing to follow.

Kind regards,
