There are multiple tasks we are working on internally to improve the performance of WPML.
None of the queries is incorrect it is just we are looking to improve things with large data.

This is our design. I don't think we can do anything here. Your team who commented it might not be aware that this table has all types of data it is not necessary to be a post. It could be taxonomy or package too. That's why it is prefixed with post or tax.
We have multiple tickets and our development team is working on it. Some of them are scheduled for the next version some of them are scheduled for 4.7.
Also, some of them are already included in 4.6.6
Once the testing is done and it is approved we may be able to provide your patch but not before it. Also, the patch can only work if you update the WPML to the latest version.
I would suggest you please update the WPML to the latest version on the live site and see the improvement.
About other issues, we will inform you when we can provide you patch.

I am sorry for that but this is not a show-stopper bug it is performance improvement. Please understand we can not fix it with simple changes this needs a lot of discussion and planning to come up with a strategy to handle things.
Also, your customer might not see the huge difference because if you are using a caching plugin this is not going to make any difference for the end user. The results are cached already.
We released WPML 4.6.7 a couple of days back. WPML 4.7 is still in the QA stage. We will get back to you as soon as possible when we have a new update on this. Please wait.
There are performance improvements and caching improvements as well as some fixes related to stuck ATE jobs, for that you are seeing queries from ATE.
Please update to the latest version and let us know.
About 4.7, it is a major release it is not going to happen in a couple of weeks it may take a longer time. Also, we may release more minor versions before 4.7 with more performance fixes.
I would suggest to keep updating the software to the latest version as soon as they are available.
