Problem:
The client is experiencing severe slowdowns in the WordPress admin area, particularly when accessing pages like /wp-admin/plugins.php, /wp-admin/edit.php, and /wp-admin/post.php. The slowdowns are related to high memory usage and long response times when WPML String Translation is active. Deactivating the WPML String Translation plugin significantly improves backend performance.

Solution:
We recommend the following steps to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue:
1. Ensure all plugins and themes are up to date.
2. Create a full site backup or a staging site to safely test changes without affecting the live site.
3. Deactivate all plugins, including WPML plugins, and switch to a default WordPress theme like Twenty Twenty.
4. Activate WordPress debug mode by following the guide at https://developer.wordpress.org/advanced-administration/debug/debug-wordpress/.
5. Reactivate the WPML plugins and monitor the site's performance.
6. If the issue is resolved, reactivate other plugins and the theme one by one to identify any conflicts.

Hi there,

Our 2nd-tier specialists found that a call is executed for each plugin, which makes a remote request to the Relevanssi servers and can slow things down.
Locally, now the site loads for 400-600 milliseconds for our specialists.
It seems this is per-environment based.

Can you restore the site on another hosting other than Pantheon or in your local environment, and check if the issue disappears?
