This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client was having some issues with a duplicated page where the default was alyways overwriting his translation.

Solution:
- "duplication" will keep the original page and the duplicated page in sync. It means that any change made on the original page (even simply clicking on "update") will overwrite any change you made on the translation
- As soon as you want to make a change you need to click "Translate independently" and the synchronization will stop.

There appeared to be a problem with the translation of pages and articles.
The first is that when you try to duplicate an article in a new locale, it is duplicated, then I go into WPML translation mode, click finish translation, credits a lot and enough, but I do not translate to the duplicated and translated page and throws back to the default locale, where the translation was made, but I can not go to the translated page, the pencil does not appear, how many times I would not reload the page.

I was able to overcome this by deactivating and reactivating WPML, but a new problem appeared.

After that the pencil appeared, but I can't go to the translated page. When I click on the pencil in an attempt to go to the translated page, I am switched back to WPML translation mode, after saving I am thrown back to the default locale of this page, then I try to click on the pencil again, I am switched back to wpml editing mode, after saving I am thrown back to the default locale and so on and so forth.

I can't go to the translated page because of this!!!

Hello,

Welcome to the WPML support forum. When you duplicate a page, you should always deactivate our editor and use the WordPress editor to translate the page manually.

One important step is to click on "Translate independently" before doing any changes on the translation. Here is our full tutorial: https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/using-different-translation-editors-for-different-pages/

To give you a little more details, "duplication" will keep the original page and the duplicated page in sync. It means that any change made on the original page (even simply clicking on "update") will overwrite any change you made on the translation because pages are synchronized. Duplication is excellent if you want to keep the translation always the same as the original (for example for terms and conditions). As soon as you want to make a change you need to click "Translate independently" and the synchronization will stop.

The second point is that it's not recommended to switch between editors. If you duplicate the page (and click on "translate independently"), you have to use the WordPress editor. Don't switch between the WP editor and our editor because you could lose your translations.
More info here: https://wpml.org/faq/why-arent-my-translations-showing/

I think that here you have two different translations that co-exist, one in our editor and the one in the WordPress editor (which is the one that should be used). And if you didn't click on "translate independently" yet, your translation will always be overwritten by the original content.

We always recommend to use our editor and translate manually only if you want a different content or layout. WPML allows you to translate the page, if the translation is different from the original page, it's not a translation anymore but a localization. Do you need to localize your translation, do you need to have a different page structure or content?
